How Often Do You Buy Used Games?

Very Often

With all of the rage concerning Used Games, I must ask.... How often do you actually Buy used games? This is not a question of how often you TRADE IN your games, but how often you PURCHASE used games. Also, for kicks; Are you happy when imagining a world where GameStop is failing because MS messed with the Used Game formula?

  • Not often, and usually when I do it's from a friend that no longer plays the game.

  • Pretty often tbh, but it all depends on the price and the game. Most of the time I just wait it out until the price drops significantly because by then its cheaper to grab it used and then jump through all the online pass and DLC hurdles. I already have a shit-blam!- of games in my backlog and it takes me forever to actually finish a game because I'm one of those people that has to do everything possible ever in the damn thing, so it takes me a while to actually go out and get a new game let alone play it. I just bought Dragon Age 2 two weeks ago if that gives you any idea. As far as Gamestop goes I don't mind them. The guys that work at the one near to me are bros even, and I don't particularly want to see them get canned.

  • I buy both used and new, and always on the internet. Games are so much cheaper online. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not willing to pay $60 for a video game in most cases.

  • I only buy used games from game companies I don't like.

  • I don't always buy used games, but when I do, I buy them en bulk, because I'm usually very interested in a new series. This was the case for Mass Effect and Borderlands.

  • Unless I absolutely have to, then no. The last used game I bought was Bioshock for the PS3.

  • I only buy new copies of current games, that have been released recently, though I buy used games for occasions, when I want to buy games that are quite rare in numbers or just plain classics.

Rarely. I think the only one I purchased this generation was Mass Effect 2 about 2 years ago. A small part of it is because I simply prefer new to used. For the most part though, it's because I'm very careful with my purchases. I do a lot of research prior to buying a game and if I don't like the looks of it by launch I probably never will. ME2 was an exception because I was impressed by the changes that were being planned for Mass Effect 3 at the time and I wanted to catch up before it released. Unfortunately it's one of the only times that an online pass ever shut me out of content. As for GameStop. I do not want them to go away. Despite all the horror stories and complaints I hear about them, my local store is fantastic. When people complain about having pre-orders shoved down their throats I'm always surprised, because the typical conversation at the counter for me is "I just need to pick up [insert game]." "Sure thing. By the way, would you be interested in pre-ordering [similar game]." "No, not today, thanks." "Okay. You're total will be [blah blah blah]." No fuss, and the employees are friendly and helpful. So if cutting out used games caused them to go out of business and forced me to go to a big box store, I'd be a little upset.

  • I skipped a lot of games simply because I never had time to play and didn't care. Now that my life is calm and relaxed and I have time to waste I have been buying a lot of old "classics" I missed out on.

  • Never. I like to have new things at this point in life. As far as gamestop goes.... I really hate eb games/gamestop employees in this city. They have such a smug attitude for some reason. Like they forget they're at work and not on some internet forum, yet still spew the "I'm right about all things gaming" attitudes. Bad shopping experience all around. Sounds like a sweeping generalization I'm sure, but every location here it's the same crap, seriously.

    • I haven't bought any games in a long time, the last new game I bought was dead space 2 a few months ago and I haven't opened it yet.

    • Back in the PS2, Xbox days, I did all the time. Now I am just focused on a couple of main games, and rarely buy anything used, let alone new. Say maybe 4-5 a year.

    • I don't think that I've ever bought a used game. I have borrowed a title from a friend when I was undecided on whether or not to purchase it, but if the loaner turned into a "I want this in my library", I think that I've always bought new. In most cases (at least when I was previously undecided) the price has dropped on new copies. I'm kind of expecting the new XBox ecosystem to have some sort of "rental subscription" that operates like Gamefly, but is downloadable titles. A monthly fee and you can download from their library of titles.

    • I almost always buy a used game. Unless I want it on release day. If they are guaranteed to work I don't see why I would want to buy a brand new game.

    • I never buy used games, so even if MS did utilize that strategy, it wouldn't affect me a bit.
