Instead of replying, people like the last reply by the other person in the conversation as a way of saying "I saw your post but I dont have anything else to say"
WHY? Why do this? It's unnecessary!
It persists on facebook and bnet! WHY?
I know it probably wont stop, but it bother me, because sometimes I was attempting to add more to the conversation, but the other person likes my post instead of actually replying. it's annoying sometimes.
In other instances the conversation was actually over and the person liked my final post as a way to say "I saw your post" but I dont really care, I know you saw it because you got a notification for it.
Likes are useful, but people abuse it.
Thoughts?

Edited by Geth: 9/1/2013 9:19:43 PMIs this a obvious way of trolling to get us to like your post. Or are you just a whiny bitch trying to find something stupid to complain about?
-
I wonder how many likes this post is getting
-
We should all just like OP's post and not respond
-
Get over it.
-
Is it really any different than the quote chains on the old Bnet? If anything it's better, no meaningless posts.
-
In other instances the conversation was actually over and the person liked my final post as a way to say "I saw your post" but I dont really care, I know you saw it because you got a notification for it.
Sometimes the notification system lags behind. There are times where it won't tell me that someone has replied until an hour after the reply has been made.

What if I like and post?
-
Remember on the old forums, how, when one agreed entirely with a post, they'd quote it without comment? It COULD be like that, if they'd have a list of all the people who liked a post attached to it somewhere or something, otherwise, it's completely useless as far as I can tell.
-
What would you rather have? A bunch of "lol, me too" responses?
-
Oh, dear. How can a user seriously abuse the 'like' system on this site? That statement just doesn't make sense. In no other universe nor reality does that statement make sense. Shame on you, lad. Be grateful that users on here even take the time to read your posts, let alone reply to them (not insinuating you're a dick; just a general message). I would also like to point out that all a 'like' means is just somebody agreeing with you, or finding what you posted interesting, funny, humorous etc. If a user doesn't feel like replying: 'Haha your funny, OP!', 'Interesting read, OP!' or even 'You marvelous son of a bitch, OP!' why should that person do so to appease you? If anything a 'like' creates a cleaner B.net, as opposed to users quoting what another user posted and just adding 'Agree' or 'Hahahah' or anything else (not like I have a major problem with that, but it certainly makes the site look cleaner with a 'like). Why am I still rambling on? Bleurgh.
Likes are useful, but people abuse it.
I like this post. But i will refrain from liking it.
-
How does a conversation end, then? If it's lazy to not respond, then an online conversation will either be endless of lazy. A like is a sufficient way of respectfully ending a conversation.
-
I liked your post, OP. Come at me bro.
-
If I like a post or comment I usually will reply. But sometimes the OP has said everything that needs to be said. In your case, great post! I have nothing to add.
-
Just like Facebook, people who like are awful. I have never liked anything on Facebook, but I will like an OP so I can find it later, however, I always comment if I do. Because honestly if you like something you have something to say about it.
-
I never like anything unless it is a thread id like to keep track of.
-
A way of being lazy? So simplicity equals laziness?
-
You pretty much nailed it perfectly. "I saw your post and have nothing else to say" thats a pretty logical reason and its better than not replying IMO. I don't see the problem here.
-
What I want to know is where is the Mute option? Not for you, but it was pretty a handy when you met a person you knew who was going to be nothing but A-hole in your threads because they like the attention. Self governance is awesome and it doesn't censor them for the rest of the board it just took you out of the situation.

-
I like more posts than I post myself these days. It's just easier. Sometimes I can't be bothered typing out a response.

Edited by Crash: 5/23/2013 10:17:44 PMThe only thing a like system does is get rid of conversation. Which is the whole point of a forum.
-
It doesn't mean "I saw your post". It means "I like your post".
-
Relevant.

The like button is a blessing and a curse, it helps get the best comments to the top, but, I am now really lazy, I rarely reply to posts now :( But that's also down to the rest of the changes, and the changes that the overall bnet community has had. Oh well :)
