I recently started playing Bioshock 2, and I'm near the end, and I really don't understand all the hate it gets. Fans basically pretend it didn't even happen. I understand that:
-It's basically Bioshock 1.5
-It retcons several plot points
-There are very few new features (the only differences in gameplay is the addition of the drill and different levels of plasmid upgrades)
-It was kinda a dumb concept and the action requires less finesse
But really, I'm just enjoying the hell out of this game. I haven't finished it yet, but I really do enjoy the Rapture environment and story and the plasmid upgrades are fun as hell.
So what turned you off to this game, and why are out experiences different?

Edited by DELIVER ME MEMES: 5/5/2013 11:39:09 PMas someone who completed bioshock 1 1100/1100, it feels subpar to BS1 in terms of story gameplay and length, and like they spent too much time on the tacked on lagmatic MP mode that could have been spent purely on the story.

I didn't have as much fun as I did with the 1st game, but the ending made me tear up.

It's not a bad game, it just didn't do much that Bioshock didn't do. Very similar action, very similar environments. I enjoyed it and played through a few times, it just doesn't have the lasting impact Bioshock had. A lot of people also criticized the player's role as a Big Daddy, primarily because it didn't actually feel like a Big Daddy. You can't take much more damage than you could as a human in the first game, and the drill wasn't the killing machine it should have been until the late game after some upgrades.

I bought 1 and 2 when they were on sale a while back, I've gotten to the crazy artist (I can't remember his name) and I love the game but I can't go on endless binges of playing it. I'm not complaining, just means I'm getting more time out of it :3 I plan to enjoy 2 when I get around to playing it.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't find it as compelling as Bioshock. It's not that I have bad things to say about it, it's that I don't have many good things to day about it. As a side note (I say side since I don't think anyone seriously considers Bioshock 2's multiplayer to be a selling point) Bioshock 2's multiplayer is pretty broken. It's part pay-to-win with some of the plasmids being DLC locked, and weapons unlocked later on (I'm looking at you extended clip crossbow) completely overpower lower level weapons.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. Granted, it was basically more of the same as Yahtzee puts it, but I still loved it. Also, dat good ending. Bioshock seems to be the only consistent series that can bring tears around with it's endings.
-
I greatly enjoyed the second one, however, the first was still a lot better.
-
It's sloowwwww and Lamb is a terrible antagonist.

Edited by LordMonkey: 5/5/2013 3:08:50 AMI thought the multiplayer was awful.

No matter what people say, the main reason for hate is because there is no 'OMG U GUIZ I DIDN"T SEE IT COMING!"!"!"!"!"!"" plot twist. If you like the Rapture setting/lore than you should like the game. What plot points are retconned? Also get the 'Minerva's Den' DLC, its fun, had a great story and most importantly it wraps up the story of Rapture.

I loved the first one so much that I really don't think there will be one that I don't or couldn't like. I just absolutely love it.
-
Edited by Pfhortnite: 5/5/2013 2:48:15 AMIt lacked in what was important about BioShock. I didn't hate it, by the way.
-
Edited by Mega Blaziken: 5/5/2013 2:31:13 AMIt's because of the fact that there's nothiing really new that the game adds besides dual wielding your stuff which makes some encounters pathetically easy, and that bad tacked on multiplayer, other than that it's a good sequel/prequel (It was a prequel right?) to bioshock.

There is hate for this game?

I liked it
