What are races physically but differences in skin color and facial structure? I imagine there will be a fixed character height but skin shades and faces will almost certainly be customizable. Gender is a given.

That would be the idea. Possibly different tribes or cultural origins that count as "race" for the Exo or Awoken? So like different philosophies, religion, roles that determine their race.

Edited by GamerPete: 5/1/2013 6:02:00 PMFrom the way they talk about it, it sounds like they mostly intend the species choice to be cosmetic. I doubt they intend to implement varying cultures for humans so I doubt they will do so for the other species. They've all been living together in the Last City for quite sometime. Considering the alien adversity outside the city, I'd be surprised if such distinctions survived in any significant form.

Edited by RAIN Angels: 5/2/2013 4:35:21 AMI mean like in the description of humans in the Destiny review and trailers, they describe the human guardians as survivors of the apocalypse. The survivors were described as sports athletes, the physically fit and smart. Kind of like Charles Darwin's strongest and best survive theory. So that would distinguish humans even more, past the male or female option. Something like that. So perhaps if the Exo or Awoken have genders, they also have some form of "race" or "color" or occupation or tribe. Can you understand what I'm trying to get at? Haha :)

I think you just demonstrated my point. The survivors were the strongest and smartest, so all the humans are strong and smart. No variance.
-
Well yeah, but we can't all be white humans. Or black humans. Give some difference else they are going to get heat from conscious players.
-
...When did I even remotely imply we'd only get one skin tone? I'm just telling you that it's only a skin tone. Customizations for Exos and Awoken will also be merely cosmetic in all likelihood. Call it a race if you like but they're all survivors living together in the Last City and had been for generations. It's a meaningless distinction.
-
Sorry, didn't mean to make it look like you implied we were one color. My point was that I want to be different no matter how similar we are in function. I just hate being a "clone" of everyone else.
-
I do too but at the end of the day Destiny is a shooter, not an RPG. Everything we know about character customization says that it will be largely if not entirely cosmetic.
-
I like shooters. But I don't want it to be like COD where everyone's a black, white, or middle-eastern guy. And I don't want it to be like Halo (they don't either) where it's just a suit of armor with a voice.
-
I think you're missing my point again. I'm saying that we will probably be able to select skin shades and facial structure. I'm just telling you that such things will be cosmetic and have no other meaning beyond what your character looks like.

Skin color differences aren't the same as cultural differences.

Finding words that apply to all three species is hard. So I mean like models/variants of the Exo. Different classes of Awoken say physical differences as a result of different jobs or something. The idea should be that they are different then just color of skin and gender. Something more but with little or no effect on combat or game experience. Imagine the difference between a scientist and security guard, that's what I mean. Just less extreme and without combat effects.
