I personally find the Oculus Rift to be such a gimmick. All it does is change the way you see the images that the game puts on screen. I don't know about you, but I'm sure as hell not paying 300$ on top of the 400$ I spent for my console, and the 350$ I spent for my TV, just to experience 'virtual reality'. Plus, look at that thing. You would have to take it off and put it back on every time you had to go to the bathroom, grab a snack, respond to a text, etc. It seems like more of a nuisance than something that would improve the gaming experience. I'm not sure how much it weighs either, but it looks it would hurt your neck if you were to wear it for prolonged gaming sessions.

 • U'll be surprised. this is going to be the next thing in gaming and you and most people dont even realize the possibilities. first of all its not a gimmick Anymore. just watch videos of people playing the Prototype, the Development kit. listen to how they describe the experience. its not liek watching a game on a screen. its like BEING there. you probably just heard or read about it. but liek they say, seeing is believing. and i believe in the vision from what ive seen. ive done ALL of the research on it, mainly because of my excitement for it.
Plus, look at that thing. You would have to take it off and put it back on every time you had to go to the bathroom, grab a snack, respond to a text, etc.
dont you have to put your controller down to do all of those things Anyway? its the same thing. it would take the Same amount of time. not a good point.
I'm not sure how much it weighs either, but it looks it would hurt your neck if you were to wear it for prolonged gaming sessions.
people have put it on and said it felt liek wearing scuba goggles. its Light now. and its promised to be lighter by the time the consumer version is done. do a little research on youtube, if you care, I've only heard good things and the benefits outway the gripes, which from what i hear will all be fixed before it launches.you'll be surprised at how much of a game changer it will be. I really appreciate your feed back. im just too excited about it and i want people to see.

 •
you probably just heard or read about it.
Unless you've used/own a dev kit, you have done exactly what I've done. Just research.
dont you have to put your controller down to do all of those things Anyway? its the same thing. it would take the Same amount of time. not a good point.
It's a completely valid point, and it isn't the same thing. It takes a fraction of a second to drop your controller and pick it back up. It takes a few seconds to get on a pair of scuba goggles, which I would say is a valid comparison to what it would be like to put the Oculus on. The Oculus would probably take even more time to take on/off, considering you would have to adjust the straps to prevent the thing from falling off your head when you turn quickly.
people have put it on and said it felt liek wearing scuba goggles. its Light now. and its promised to be lighter by the time the consumer version is done.
When I was researching the Oculus I couldn't find anything about weight. I guess it's not as heavy as I thought.
I've only heard good things and the benefits outway the gripes, which from what i hear will all be fixed before it launches.you'll be surprised at how much of a game changer it will be.
This is exactly what people said about the Kinect and Playstation Move. Well, look how those turned out. The Oculus is a cool concept, but I don't think it'll take off the way you're expecting it too.

 • Actually hearing from someone has used the dev kit, I'll take this into account. Hearing someone who has used it say it's great definitely changes my perspective.

 • I have to disagree about the Kinect and Move. i was never excited about either. but i do think that for games like on the Wii that are Made for motion controls work really well and were successful. like Metroid Prime 3 and even the last Zelda game. but not so much success on the sony microsoft side. and microsoft put that thing out unfinished. they have the money and they wanted to test the market. shoot u didnt even mention 3D gaming which is doing even Worse in the comunity. luckily that only relies on having the TV in the first place. but 3D is nowhere near as cool as the Rift IMO and many others'. Taking 2 seconds to take off goggles and text someone isnt that much of a hassle. u'd only have to adjust straps the First time u put it on or after someone else. I dont think it will take over Gaming but i think that just like the motion controllers do, it will work best for the games that are optimized for it and not just tacked on. and it will have just as much if not more success than motion controls. I Actually believe that they will give Motion controls More success in the way its Supposed to make u feel like ur in the game. but games that are meant for screens will still be there just like side scroller games have always been there and will continue to be there. its another game genre and it will be successful. watch sony/ microsoft have their own versions at E3. maybe not. lol. its definitely not going to be for Everyone and im sure we can agree on That.

 • Plus it's weird for those moments in games where they force the camera to jerk around on screen for some reason.

 • Another problem arises in competitive FPS games like Halo. If I need to do a complete 360 degree turn to shoot someone, I'd need to completely turn around in my living room. That can be distracting, slow, and get me killed.

 • or u can use the anolog stick to turn all the way around. now i doubt that youve done any research. watch most videos on youtube and the control mechanism is explained and it is possible to play on the rift in a chair facing forward and still turn all the way around.

 • I agree. there is going to have to be somethin Done to remedy that. my idea is if it goes to cut scene it should change the view to widescreen rectangle so that you are out of the game and watching. as far as in game jerking, they should create the experience to make you feel like u would Have to do that anyway. but things like tumbling or swirling around in mid air, idk. developers are going to have to figure out a way to do those things well, with out making people sick. OR, like some people have said, after using it for a while the brain understands it better and they get used to it. so maybe u will get used to some things.
