A question about 'free will'

I don't really understand the concept of free will... (You might say that I view everything as hard determinism) I mean, if free will exists, there should be an alternative of having free will, right? So, how can you see the difference? And how does a world without free will work?
If you think that this is a stupid thread, feel free to ignore it :D
• This isn't dumb by any means. Think about this: if the multiverse theory is true, and each universe is created at any point of probability, then there are an infinite number of universes, or at least a mind numbingly large number of them. Well, if each universe is separate, and each has a different end state, then this universe has a fixed fate, and its dependent on all decisions, in order for you to exist in this particular universe, you have to make decisions to lead to that end state. So, we may not know what that end state is, but each of our decisions are fixed leasing to that particular end state.

  • If there wasn't free will, we wouldn't have the ability to reason and make choices, and therefore even think.

  • If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice!

      • The heart is an example of something that has no free will. All it does is pump blood around the body constantly until it malfunctions or it stops receiving commands, it has no choice in when it stops or starts pumping.

        • Some people argue that everything can be calculated given all the variables before hand therefore your entire future has been decided since the beginning of the universe, some use the argument of fate, and some see the two as the same.

          •
I mean, if free will exists, there should be an alternative of having free will, right?
I don't understand that bit. But I don't believe in free will. Everything we do is the product of our upbringing, environment and genetics. Even the most arbitrary choices are predetermined, even if they aren't influenced by prior factors.

          • Without completely understanding how you view free will , there's no way to make a suitable argument. And to do that, I would have to get inside your head and know everything about how you think, which is impossible.
