Morrowind for the xbox, should I get it?

Yes, of course!

26

Nah...don't bother.

Okay, so a friend of mine and I walked up to a local video game store in our area that sells some recent, but mostly older games...as in WAY old. Games for the nintendo 64, gameboy color, the old Sega systems, and the systems themselves too. Probably left out a few things, but I think you get the idea. Anyway, I noticed they're selling Morrowind, the third Elder Scrolls game for about fifteen bucks. It's the xbox version, and apparently it runs on the 360 too. Being someone who's only played the hell out of Oblivion and Skyrim, should I pick it up? I want to, but I don't know how well i'd be able to adjust to the differences. Also, can you give me the most notable differences that might throw off someone who has only played the more recent games? It would be appreciated.

  • Not on Xbox. I just couldn't get into the game; it was too unplayable. I wish I had played it back in its golden ages but I was too immature to actually appreciate it back then, let alone understand it.

  • You can't fast travel and I don't think you can see quest markers on the map

  • PC so you can download mods to make the combat more tolerable.

    • I heard it doesn't run so well on the Xbox compared to PC. Also PC has the use of mods, but if you do not have a decent PC to play it on, I'd recommend the 360.

    • I don't think original Xbox games work on the 360 anymore... They took that feature out

      • The game has aged horribly and at times the main quest will drag on and on and on.

          • If you can adjust to major set backs sure. However I'm sure you can find it cheaper then $15. The game is like 8 years old lol

            • If you can't get around the more complex elements, crappy graphics and poor animations (it hasn't aged very well, as Super Sonic rightly said), I would recommend trying Morroblivion. Skywind won't be ready for at least another year.

I played it on the original Xbox back before the 360 and I loved it. Somethings that may take some getting used too for someone who's only played the most recent 2 though are, no objective arrow(though something I liked), you have to check your journal alot, not only to find out where to go or what to do, but for hints about how to proceed in a quest(something else I liked), combat and magic systems are kinda clunky and didn't age too well, whether or not a hit from your attack registers is determined by luck and agility attributes aswell as your skill with the weapon your using, frequent and long load times, text only dialogue, running into enemies WAY over your head that required retreat or buffs, quick travel only in the form of silt striders and Mage's Guild teleportation found in towns(like Skyrims horse and buggy),fugly running animation, naked shadows, cliff racers EVERYWHERE, and last but not least, MOTHERFUGGIN GREATER BONEWALKERS WITH THEIR MOTHERFUGGIN STRENGTH CURSE=ALL MY HATE! If you can get past the game's age and flaws, it's one of the most enjoyable RPG/adventure experiences out there. Hope you enjoy the game if you pick it up :)

            • Get it for pc and you get mods for it. Don't tell me you can't run it. A calculator can run it.

Get the game of the year edition. If you don't you'll miss out on two excellent expansions and enemy health bars.

              • Yes, you should!! I'll let the other people motivate you. Just message me if you decide to buy it. I wrote up a page or two of hints & tips for my friend that bought Morrowind...then never decided to play it. I'm completely willing to give you the copy of notes, before or after purchase to give you a better idea of how to play Morrowind and what the differences are between it and its successors.

Do you enjoy the lore and setting and just doing the elder scrolls "thing"? If so chances are you will love morrowind. If you can get in on a PC I would recommend that over the Xbox version (Mods, fan-patches, UI). The game will involve quite a bit more reading than oblivion/skyrim. You should check out some gameplay videos on YouTube and see what's what. Edit: as far as things that may throw someone new off: No quest markers of any kind, journal is a little confusing at first, little dialogue, and probably the thing that throws most people off is that your skill determines your chance to succeed when striking or casting a spell. IE: in oblivion when you swing your sword your skill determines how much damage you do. In morrowind when you swing your skill determines your chance of making contact with your strike. So in the beginning of the game you might swing ten times at a mid crab and hit it once.

PC master race. Dude, there's a mod that allows you to prostitute yourself. You don't get these kinds of things on console. All you get is what she wrote but with PC, mod the game to 18GB if you'd like. That's what I did with Oblivion and I've never had so much fun with the game.

                    • Sure, it can't hurt. I have 3 copies of it, regular Xbox version, GOTY Xbox version, and GOTY for PC. It's best for the PC though as it was patched officially and by fans and there a ton] of mods.
