Could I see ranomly appearing spaceships to do battle with? Yes.
Could I see myself entering every random ship that I came across? No.
Here's why: Bungie would have to make a 'level' for each ship there is. Unless it's scripted, and somewhere you can go whenever you want, I don't think they'll do it. Having enemy spaceships do battle with you though is something I think will be in the game, and Bungie is a fan of things just randomly happening, so I think they will have that.

Its acutally more likely that Space battles are possible with boarding individual ships. Because, depending on the size of playable space in the solar system, how much geometry would be floating around in desolate space anyways? With the vast void between planets, its quite possible that raiding ships would be more likely.
-
No it's not. For each ship that we could raid, Bungie has to create that geometry. They have to create a totally new entirely playable space. Aside from a couple derelict spaceships here and there, that we could visit anytime we want, I don't see boarding enemy ships possibly, especially random ones that we are doing battle with.

its pretty simple if all the ships of a single race are roughly identical. I mean thats how ships are IRL. They have set designs. Also the geometry would be easy to implement as space is pretty void.
-
Designing a level for each ship wouldn't be that hard, especially now that hey have Grognok. As we know from real life, not every ship is unique; each is built off a set design or template. If each of the 5 enemy races has 3 classes of ship, each one following a specific 'template', Bungie only has to design 15 levels, with each one containing randomized loot at the end.
-
This. now the only problem would be making each ship a fun experience. I mean, how many times would you want to raid the same Vex recon transport? I think randomizing enemy defenses within the ship would take care of that problem.

Agreed, ships would need some form of a variable to keep things interesting.
