I've wanted to join the army for a while now, when I finish my education, and I haven't been able to decide wether I want to be a combat engineer, or just a plain soldier. This is also a If I can thing aswell, because I will need a waiver to join the army. on that note, can you get a waiver for Mild aspergers? (as I understand it the final descion is up to your medical examiner, so you can't be turned away at the desk)

Edited by RIP delta: 4/16/2013 5:38:50 PMIf you're capable of being in the RE, they'll try to dissuade you from infantry anyway. I wouldn't advise many people to be infantry. Besides even in the RE you can still train for Commandos and SAS/SRR etc. My Section Commander at ATR B was in the Royl Engineers yet was Commando capable too

Engineers. You will learn more cool stuff than infantry. Infantry skill are more unlearning all the cool expectations you developed from watching movies.

The decision's up to you, but I'd go with engineering. You can have the army pay for your tertiary education in return for a few years' service - 5, I think, although it may have changed. Plus, after you leave, it looks great on your CV and sets you up for a job very nicely in the civilian sector, whilst being a regular infantryman doesn't give you many applicable skills in the jobseeking world.

They're still hiring even though they just fired about 20,000 people?

Engineer. Much more fun.

I think an Engineer would have more use during peacetime or indirect combat, building bridges/roads and the like. But of course that role is even more vital in conflict for assisting troop movements and region stability. If you think you can be an engineer then it is probably more worthwhile than being in the infantry. (Which of course is still a very important role)

Infantry! But you do know that you could be potentially -blam!-ed once you finish your service if you come out alive?
