What does Bungie and the community mean to you?

Hi Septagon. Lately, I've been reflecting upon my footprints, including those in the community I have called home for a few years now. During my brief time here, I've laughed uncontrollably, marveled at the genius of your creative speculating minds, and participated in heated debates. But it was all not fun and games. All that passion often leads to conflict, and I feel deep remorse for the words I have said to both Bungie and fellow community members. Each and every member is integral to forming the culture of this site. In times of success, in times of bliss, and in times of despair and turmoil, this community has been there together and for each other in more ways than you may know. For that, I am honored to have the opportunity to be a member here. As we continue to move forward in a new era with Bungie, I can't help but reminisce in the memories of when I first joined. The excitement and wonder unified us, and we once again speculate and listen for the next update or ViDoc. This comes as a much needed breath of fresh air from our less collaborative times. It is my wish that we continue this throughout so that we can maintain that passionate but loyal and true community onto Destiny. I just wanted to share these thoughts. We may argue, get on each other's nerves, and exercise the silent treament, but we are all part of this great big Bungie family in the end. I thank you all for patiently sticking through thick and thin with it, and for welcoming this hobbling goat. ♥

A question that can never be answered. Bungie.net is a paradox of socializing, anticipating, development, relationships and procrastination. Any combination of those terms is the reason why I still exist here. If it weren't for all the game-nights, forum anarchy, rememberable experiences and friendships I've created, I'd be long gone. Some say "show up for the news, stay for lame jokes", I show up for the lame jokes and news just happens to be posted. We're all a piece of the puzzle, a leaf in the wind, but together we can form something extraordinary. We're ever changing, always adapting to our new and old members. I find it odd that you can generally tell the insight of individual members based on the way they present themselves, but it's always interesting to watch others (and notice yourself) change over time. I'm pumped to see what happens as we move full swing into the "Destiny Era" of bungie.net. Stay classy 7th Column.

    • For me Bungie and the community died with the site update. I've only came back to say my thoughts regarding this god awful site and the god awful community. You're all retarded for coming here. Bye.

    • I'm new here but old to Bungie and gaming. Played Pathways on my PowerMac 19 years ago. Halo actually made me stop playing fighting games, which is something rather awesome to say because I used to be one of the best Virtua Fighter players in Times Square. I've played more Halo than just about any other game but have slacked off all my gaming in the past three years. What happened was that some of my XBox Live friends died, literally. Two guys in two years. One from a motorcycle wreck and another from cancer. All the spirit went out of our crew and we've been rather scattered ever since. It is really strange to have so many memories in so many virtual spaces. When Vile Rat was killed in Benghazi the story resonated with me on multiple levels. I know what it's like to interact with bloody geniuses online, what it's like to lose online friends, and how important it is to be known a different way outside of your profession, your family or your neighborhood through online gaming. There's stuff people know about you online which is unique - it's always been a part of my life, but the past few years have been weird. As much as I hate PC gaming, I gave Eve Online a try. Disappointment. i can't remember when I became aware of Destiny, but I knew that it would be legendary. I expect to live in there for a long time, so it's important for me to get back into the proper spirit of gaming. I'm going to give it a shot. What I'm looking for and hope to find are gamers with the depth of respect for the extraordinary creations games are, and with real lives too. By real lives I mean comprehensively cross-linked with real world literature and history. I know there are people at Bungie like that, you don't just pull Rudyard Kipling out of thin air. We'll see.

        • In a sentence: This community is somewhere I'd feel welcome no matter how long I'd been away. I mean, sometimes I just don't come by for a while, and sometimes I just lurk. But whatever the case may be, I've met more cool people here than I can safely say that I have in any other gaming(-related) community.

        • I love the humor and the banter of the 7th Column. I feel at home here, it's just an enjoyable environment. I came here for Halo, and I stayed for Bungie. I absolutely love the way they handle things. Now I'm ready for Destiny.

Bungie is the greatest, they are truly a unique gaming company. They make great games, the way they interact with there fans, and their sense of humor. I love the easter eggs they have in their games I always love finding them and seeing other people find them, it amazes me how people find these and post them on the internet. I have huge respect for Bungie and I've never really have been apart of a gaming community until I started playing Halo and seeing how awesome of a gaming company Bungie is, I said to myself "I want to be apart of this community". Bungie I thank you for everything you have done, and I hope you are reading this as well as everyone else's. I can't wait for what you have for us with Destiny. Be brave Bungie and Bungie fans, I believe this game will be well worth the wait.

Bungie are by far my favourite developers. Bungie.net is the only community I have kept coming back to, although for years I wasn't particularly active, I mostly lurked. I feel that with the new site however that I'm becoming more active than I have ever been, it's been a great experience to finally start interacting with some of the community members whose musings I have been reading for a long time.

          • This community is so pathetic. There's only a few people here I like, but other than that, I hate everyone here. The unbearable hypocrisy and double-standards are ridiculous and not to mention how hard you guys try to be clever when you really you're only making an ass of yourselves. This whole community has proven time and time again that they're just as pseudo-intellectual as capiton render. Truly mind blowing. Fuck all of you.

            • Nice read, goat. This is a long read, so I gave you some music to listen to. Questions like the one you just asked are always difficult to answer...a lot of stuff comes to my mind. I've loved Halo since I first popped Halo: CE into my xbox (it was the first game I ever played on xbox). The music was amazing, the gameplay was fun, and playing as Master Chief sort of helped me escape reality for a while which was fantastic. I didn't have many friends and I was bullied a lot, so playing as a unstoppable force and saving everyone was a nice change of pace. For a long time I never really thought about the men and women behind Halo, just the game. But then when Halo 3 came out and I was in 8th grade I finally realized, "this is what I want to do with my life". I wanted to make games. I had always drawn master chief and even drew my own spartan I named "Steel Titan" because Halo inspired me and then I realized that I wanted to make games and I wanted to help create games with the people who made Halo. So, I discovered Bungie and I knew I wanted to help inspire people the way Bungie inspired me. I wanted to help create an amazing universe for people to fall in love with. Most of all, I wanted to help kids who had a rough childhood escape their realities for a while just like Halo had done for me. Bungie, to me, is my inspiration and my drive to achieve those goals. I didn't realize that they were more than game developers until I found Bungie.net. My story of how I arrived here is like many other stories, I came here for my Halo 3 stats and for that cool nameplate. Even though I had purchased Halo 3 when it was released I didn't have a 360. I had to wait 2 years just to play it and to experience Xbox Live. I missed the glory days of Halo 2 online, I wasn't going to miss Halo 3. So, I checked my stats and I changed my nameplate but oddly enough I didn't even realize that b.net had forums and on top of that once I found out I didn't even know where to start. I had never used an internet forum before. Time passed and I lurked and posted now and again, watched, and slowly became confident. When I started coming more frequently I saw Bungie interact with the community and I was amazed. We could interact with the people that I admired so much? I thought that was amazing and I had even more respect and admiration for Bungie then I already had. The community has also grown on me. As I became a frequent user I began to recognize people and I even began to make some friends. It was great and it was something I wanted to help build and improve. I've always felt that if I'm going to spend my time doing something, I'm going to give it my all. For video games, I thought that if I was going to spend countless hours playing them I was also going to be the best at them and kick other people's asses online. For the community, I felt if I was going to come here and interact with strangers on the internet who have the same passion as me I was going to do my best to make friends, connections, and see different views I couldn't get from my small but growing town. I felt it was also important that as a member of this tightly knit community I should do my best to find ways to contribute and bring us all a little bit closer. I love you guys and I think the community we have here is amazing, and it is also something I haven't seen anywhere else. I am willing to bust my ass to make money just to attend PAX and hangout with the community members that attend. I want to get to know more of you and make even more friends here. If you think I'm BSing, I'm not. This is probably the longest post I have made that wasn't part of something like the Communisack (which is currently on break). Sorry for the rant, I'm done now.

            • Bungie is a company that i have a lot of faith in. They've entertained me for over 10 years, so i check in here to see what they're up to. The community doesn't mean much. I feel we've been separated since the new site was implemented. Now there are people i will never see, just because i don't follow the same tags that they do. I'm not going to do one of those 'the community was better before' posts, because that's not how i feel. The community was smaller before, and that's all. If i can find some cool people to game with here, that's awesome, but truthfully i don't get much out of coming here anymore. It's a little sad.
