Why is everyone so excited about skill-based ranking in Halo 4?

In my opinion, it seems kind of silly. All multiplayer games on Xbox Live have some form of Trueskill to match you with similarly skilled players, it just happens to not be visible in Halo 4. I can see how some people would want to see what their skill is, but I also find it silly that they are nearly completely removing CSR when so many features (unlocks, specializations) revolve around it. In any case, I think there is really no reason to overturn a games ranking system if it already matches based on skill.
Please don't flame me, and try to keep the discussion somewhat civil.

If it was in game. I'd be excited. Intead its gonna be on the stupid waypoint website, with EVERY playlist being ranked, AND Join in progress to mess up the ranks. Good job 343.

If there's a ranked playlist that would be great. I would like to play against people more or less my skill level rather than get obliterated 1 Kill/26 Deaths.

Im not CSR wont magically fix the shitty gameplay. It will still play like crap and CSR wont fix that.

Sounds cool but they said this would be in the game by January. Or at least they said they hoped to have it in by then, but of course Halo 4 was hardly finished the way it was.

They're not removing SR, and I'm not excited about it because even with this 343i managed to -blam!- it up. Who the hell cares if it's on Waypoint? Halo: Reach had a skill rank on Waypoint and no one gave two shits about it because you had to get off the game to actually see something on the game! I don't want to go to my laptop everytime I complete a match to see if I ranked up.

Halo 4 didn't have a ranking system, it has a progression system, which is nice for seeing how much you play the game, but is useless for figuring out how well you are doing compared to the rest of the online population. Some people enjoy visible ranks for status, others want to have a method to compare how they've been doing at the game, either way, it's a statistic that's worth tracking in my opinion.
