Surprisingly I'm fine with the current system because it's more of means of communicating and sharing topics than just pushing popularity. The best discussion that can be had is a discussion free from bias; it weighs and considers all posts. If likes were shown as a counter or with a list of names, it would only serve to add bias to posts. The reality is that people who want to post things such as "This" or "What he said" really aren't contributing anything the discussion, and thus should not post and simply play the role of spectator. To have users who are unable to contribute to discussion constantly adding bias and promoting certain posts is anything but helpful. Additionally, a post should be distinguished by its content, not the number of likes it has. I hope most of you realize that you're trying to implement a feature that is literally the embodiment of the bandwagon fallacy.
