I want to be apart of a game creating team.

Im 22 and have been through community college but haven't finished (just some credits no degree) do to a lack of knowing what i want to do. I've always thought helping make games would be too naive. Its not a matter of "hey i like games so i would like making them". Its a matter of i want to help make something other people will enjoy. Well i don't want to make this into a blog so here is my question. How realistic would it be to go into game development? Is school required? Is a special school required? How do i get into the field and apply? I can use google i just want to see your guys's opinion.

  • I'm surprised at the pessimism, honestly. From what I know (which is nothing) about game design, I think it's worth looking into if you have an interest in it. There are also a lot of positions in game design, so it's not like you have to be the programmer. Since you said you want to make something for other people, I'd gauge selflessness vs. hardship. I watched a documentary on Indie game development for Braid, Super Meat Boy, and Fez, and development got pretty intense. I'm not sure what producing a bigger title's like but it can't be completely alien to the Indie developer experience.
