I fully agree with this lawsuit. I think that it's pretty clear that printing "In God We Trust" on money violates the idea of separation of church and state. A secular entity should not be spreading the idea of trust in a deity (any deity), especially not through something that everyone has to use.
This idea is not anti-religious. It is the same principle as to why I don't learn about human anatomy in my Shakespeare class. It's not that there's anything wrong with learning about anatomy, that class just isn't the time or place for it. Something printed by the government is not the place to declare that "we" (whoever that refers to) "trust in" a deity, when that is not true in many cases.

1 ReplyI'd say the main reason I'm against it, is its such a waste of time and money, money we don't have, time and money we could be spending on things like helping the economy, or education, or science and for what? because you get so offended by a little phrase printed in small print on your money you hardly look at? a phrase that doesn't stand for religious backing now as much as its just plain tradition in thats its always freaking been there, grow up and protest a nativity scene or something if the very thought of a higher power gets you so booty tickled.

You know what the people making this Lawsuit were doing with their money before they saw that? just using it. Then they decided to look at their dollar. What were these four simple words doing before they looked at the dollar? not a damn thing. Its a big deal for the religious because these people are making it their job to stamp us out in every way possible from the public. The phrase "in God we trust" isnt meant to "convert all non believers" its simply there as a reminder of what the nation was founded on. Its not a true to heart meaning more so just a historical record of the people who founded this land. yet the people who see this somehow instantly get angry by looking at these four simple words and have to gather up their thugs to remove it.

You don't really just look at the coin, stare at it, and get your jimmies all rustled just because a coin says "In God We Trust". It's not a big deal at all. Plus, let's say that all of this does happen, this won't remove the millions of coins already in circulation that say "In God We Trust". So you'll still have to see it one way or the other.

Is it really worth that much trouble to get a single phrase removed from our money? I support the separation of church and state as much as anyone, but this seems incredibly pointless. Let's focus on something that actually make as a difference.
