Having played all the main games in the Metal Gear Solid franchise (haven't touched the PSP/PS Vita games like Portable Ops nor Peacewalker) I have always been a fan of the franchise. Some may say that Rising is bad and all, but I liked it, a lot (and that's coming from a guy that did not enjoy the second bit of Metal Gear Solid 2 that much). In order of preference I would have to say that my list is:
-Metal Gear Solid (Nothing will beat it, ever)
-Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Loved the survival (somewhat) aspect of the game and the Cold War setting)
-Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I just want to let you know that PW [i]is[/i] one of the "main" games in the series. It was originally titled MGS5 until Konami said that they didn't want a "main" title on a handheld. The story of GZ/TPP/MGS5 is continuing DIRECTLY from where PW left off.
