Does fasting exclude meat from one's diet for a certain amount of time? Or does it exclude all foods until a certain time of the day?

At dawn fasting starts when the sun sets fasting stops. As the month goes on. The time to start goes up and the time to stop fasting goes down so it gets easier each day.
