player-created, nonstructured, "clan" battles that could go on forever if people stayed online.
Many Halo: Reach clans used to make forts on forge world and 8v8 "raid" like clan battles would go on for hours. I have been a part of a handful and they are so much fun. That alone is what kept me wanting to play Reach. Chillin with my group and harvesting tears from other groups while we capture there base and they try to take it back. Most fun I've had and if they had a lawless zone in Destiny, it would keep me, and I'm sure many others playing the game for years. Simply because so many different things can happen in these player constructed fights, especially when you are apart of an organized clan. It's like a whole new campaign everytime.

I think that something like this could definitely and easily get people to that 50-100 hour of gameplay mark that Jason Jones mentioned in the Pathways out of Darkness ViDoc.
