Hmm perhaps we will be able to join factions? I don't know what role a player's membership will play throughout the game though. Maybe membership will have certain benefits like better loot chances in certain item categories.

Surely it plays a role in Faction Wars, but we don't know how exactly. Factions in PvP could simply be the Destiny equivalent of Halo's red team and blue team. Or it could play a bigger role like Planetside 2.
