I have a similar concern regarding the "loot" we will be hunting for. In other games it was quite easy to discover the unique locations or enemies that contained/dropped the rarest of items. In Borderlands, I probably reloaded this specific city hundreds of times just because I knew I had a better chance at scoring some bad-blam! weapon. I have also tried out War Z and have consistently found people quick-spawning and camping locations that have the best chance for holding a weapon. This is something I hope Bungie considers as well. Yes, the search for the "next big thing" -either weapon or armor- is fun, but the novelty wears off and it can become a competition between friends rather than a shared experience. I had to stop playing Borderlands with a buddy because he always had the biggest, baddest weapon after weapon farming for 3 hours. He would maul through enemies without me having to help. tl;dr - I hope Bungie also deals with the weapon-farming aspect of games like this. While it is incredible to HAVE that gun, there needs to be realistic methods to attain that weapon that doesn't take away from the social aspect of the game.

  • If the planets are nearly as explorable as they're rumored to be, I think finding good hiding spots for epic loots will be very easy.

  • Good point. That's why I'm hoping it does not model Borderlands in that way. Don't get me wrong, finding those spots are a blast, but if this game becomes "fast travel here, beat the guys, reset the game and repeat" I'll be a little disappointed. I guess I feel like Borderlands has a GREAT idea behind weapons/loot, but took a shallow approach at giving that to the players. If Bungie can create a deeper and more complex system to weapon upgrading, I think they might have created the perfect storm of FPS greatness.

As far as weapons go, I think it would be very interesting if a system similar to the one in Blacklight: Retribution were implemented. If you've never played Blacklight, the system they have essentially let's you customize everything (Receiver, Muzzle, Barrel, Magazine, Scope and Stock), each one having a distinct effect on the functionality of your weapon. I think this system would work well, because it eliminates the whole "best weapon" problem. Even though some weapon parts are better than others, your gun is built to your playstyle and character. If this were the case my custom SMG may work great when my Warlock uses it, but horrendous when my buddy's Titan tries it out. I'd love to see this system implemented, because it provides a level of customization many games do not currently have.

  • So much yes.

  • That sounds awesome. Even with this though, Bungie will definitely have to find that fine line where people can do extreme customization without stopping every time someone on your Fire Team messes with a new pistol for 5 minutes.

  • Well I'll be playing solo, primarily because of this very reason. I don't want people slowing me down. But there are several ways to prevent the problem of stopping people from doing this. The first is to just tell your group not to do it :P. But on a serious note, a legitimate way to do it is to require a "crafting bench" or something of the sort to access the weapon customization menu. These "crafting benches" could be located on every starship, in most human settlements, and specific locations within some Dungeons. This would limit customization to out-side combat scenarios, which is totally fine in my opinion. I'm really hoping we see a system like this, because it provides each player with a chance to create a unique weapon for themselves.
