Only reason I never played much of Borderlands online co-op was cause GearBox did not handle the loot system correctly
Hopefully Bungie does it well however they give out items and money etc.

I think they have said everyone gets their own loot. Like, if you kill an enemy and it drops one weapon, it will drop one weapon for everyone.
