I'm not saying I hate co-op -- in fact, I love co-op -- but in MMOs and shooters with more expansive maps/areas to explore and fight in, I've always enjoyed being less of 'one of the guys (and/or girls)' and preferred skirting the edges of the map; using guerilla tactics. Less concerned with being a hero; instead, being a silent guardian; a watchful protector... A dark...
You get it. But I think with the 'background matchmaking,' or whatever they called it, it's going to be even more fun to play as a lone wolf and come across other people in the middle of a huge firefight, or struggling in a mission, and being able to appear out of nowhere and help them out.
I find that concept equally exciting as exploring and adventuring through the worlds with friends who have my back.

I really hope the game's complete story will be able to be experienced by non-social gamers. I'd like to play with friends, but I don't have any gamer friends, and with school and work I don't have the time to organize "meetings" with people over the internet. I was a huge KOTOR fan and had been eagerly awaiting the third chapter when TOR was announced. Alas, I never got to finish the story for said reasons.
