People who deny an abortion to victims of -blam!- are sick

Title says "Rape" but can't bypass censor in titles. I seriously think they are very sick people. To force a women who has suffered through an incredibly harmful crime to go through pregnancy and labour because of your own morality, it seriously disgusts me.

  • I'm curious what the "pro-life"rs think/expect the mother to do with the child once it's born. Obviously she could take care of it, but what if she lives in poverty? What if she encounters financial difficulties? What if she is still in school? Is that the kind of burden that should be placed on her? If the suggestion is to give it up for adoption, keep in mind that the number of adoptions is dropping, even internationally. It's also worth noting that unwanted children are higher risks for crime.

    • I don't believe it is right to punish a child for the sins of the father. Instead, direct all that anger towards the rapist.

    • I am against abortion, but in cases like this I find it acceptable for the woman to be allowed an abortion. Pikuach Nefesh as the Jews say.

      • I'm sure there aren't too many women who have had children or women in general who think that way. I'm aware that a pregnancy takes a significant toll on your body, but I can't claim to understand to the extent that I think I can decide for a woman whether they have to be put though that. Especially in situations such as -blam!-.

        • What so many anti-womaners forget is that the HUMAN LIFE is, at the stages where abortion is legal, something that lacks a brain that contains any vaguely human thought. The fact that it has a heartbeat means nothing. It's life? Of course. Is it valuable life? I'd say no, because it can't feel pain, can't think; it's not a human life, at least not yet. You happily eat meat from an animal that has a heartbeat, and I'm sure it can feel a hell of a lot more pain than the unborn fish thing that is a first trimester fetus. And if you argue that just because it contains the genetic material to eventually become a human, it is human, consider this: Sperm and human ova contain half of the genetic material to create a human. They are, for all intents and purposes, the first stage of beginning a new life. Does that mean that masturbation is mass-murder? Does that mean that a woman having a period is a burial for a neglected life? A line has to be drawn, and it makes sense for the line to be drawn at the point that the fetus can feel pain and conceive thoughts and emotions. The "it wants to live" argument is bullshit as well. Every living creature wants to live. Does that mean we are required to not kill anything? At these early stages of pregnancy, the fetus is less complex a life form than so many other animals, and yet you're trying to frame it like someone's trying to break into a nursery and stab a baby. It's just not that simple.

Is it right to kill a child for a crime his or her father did? -blam!- is a despicably evil act, but so is murder.

                    • I think abortion is wrong. Seriously, you want to kill a baby? I look at it as once the fetus has a heartbeat, it's alive. Things like the Morning After pill i don't have a problem with though because at that point, yes, the baby is just a bundle of cells. I also support abortion if it's a -blam!-/forced incest baby, or it's going to kill the mother. >>My two cents

                    • I don't believe that they should be forced to keep the child, but I think that society could offer these women a lot more help and support throughout their life. Instead of just being like "awww that's to bad, abort the baby so you won't be traumatized", something could actually be done to help them raise their child in a manner where they won't ever have to suffer for that violent crime that was committed against them. Whether that means giving the woman and her child a place to live, access to obtainable jobs, furthering their education more affordable, healthcare for themselves and their child, free childcare, or food, I believe it could very easily be done. They do all of this for military veterans, and I think something like this would be beneficial to the whole "Pro-life/Pro-choice" debate. Instead of arguing over what's right and wrong, why not just do the right thing and help someone through a really hard time in their life, and let them get back on their feet? Just an idea, and it isn't perfect, but I think that some kind of system like this would make the "pro-life" movement less 'forced' and more encouraged.

                      • Agreed, the birth of a child should really be something of planning and preparation. You aren't killing a human.... technically it isn't even sentient yet, why should the mother be forced to 'save' a life because someone said 'yeah "-blam!-" sucks, but you got to deal with it yourself'. Then what happens if the mother dies in child birth? 'Oh well she tried' Or The baby dies, that would cause more mental damage then the assault itself. Any of you, a question: How would you like it if you were born a bastard child to a rapist, sent to an adoption home later to find out that neither of your parents wanted you, and your father doesn't even know you exist. Please tell me how one would live with that? No for the foetus's well being abortion is the right call, that is doing more right for it then it being born into that cruel world.

                      • I agree completely, people who think that a child that is the result of -blam!- and is a reminder of what happened to the mother will seriously have a good life if born shouldn't reproduce, they're only spreading the idiocy that they believe is "the right thing to do"

                      • I agree. I support a woman's right to choose in all but third trimester abortions. Only then if it risks the health of the mother. A woman shouldn't have to bear a child from an encounter that was criminal and, by definition, forced. Its just wrong. I will with hold my opinion of anyone who disagrees with me. I tend to be rather...heated on this subject.
