As part of our continuing mission to bombard the Bungie.next Beta with your better salvos of feedback, we’ve deployed another update. If you take a deep inhale, you can smell the fresh code. It smells like… victory. In keeping with our pledge to keep you slightly briefed on our grand conspiracy to reinvent your home in our domain, a list of the more apparent changes are found below.
First, some highlights for this new version. Here are the fixes we think you’ll be most excited about…
Throw your voice into a specific Forum Category. We’ve added some structure to the party, thus preserving the unique discussion parlors that you’ve come to know and love. Forum Categories are exclusive buckets of conversation – so you’ll only be able to pick one. They can be selected from a dropdown menu as you draft a Topic. Yes, there’s a reservoir for The Flood. You still have the ability to apply tags to each post, but you won’t be able to use the official tags that drive the Categories.
Please Note: Older topics will still straddle multiple categories. New ones won't.
We’re dark (again) bro. One or two of you may have mentioned that they missed the smoky aesthetic of the old and busted Bungie.net. We can’t imagine why, but we love you way too much to let such polite feedback float away on the breeze. To turn out your respective lights, visit the Display options on the Settings page under your profile. That should hold you over until the end of the beta.
Please Note: You may find holes in the new dark theme. Keep Calm and Report to #Feedback.
If you crave every last detail, here’s the rest of the changes (some large, some small):
-you can now filter the Activity feed by the people you’re following
-the Social feed on the front page displays the entire entry
-the autocomplete no longer returns duplicate users
-email addresses are now a hidden value on your profile page
-when you sign out of your account on the profile page, it goes away
-links on the careers page have been fixed
-fixed the display for all time latest topics
-the navigation bar for the mobile view scrolls when zoomed in
-Ninjas can edit replies to official posts
-a new menu for Display Options is available in Settings
-the reply button now appears when you access a forum reply via permalink
-issues with capitalized file extensions for embedded have been fixed
-the FORUMS link at the top of the display leads to the Categories menu
-forum titles are now active links that refresh the Topic index
That’s all for now, and that’s enough. This was not the first to update to Bungie.next. It won’t be the last. We’re still tinkering with the controls on the bridge, and there are still items on your wish list that are being made real. Some fixes just take longer than others.
Keep the chatter coming. Let us know how the new changes impact your experience.

Might I make a suggestion? When I'm in a thread in a forum (Say, I'm in a random thread in the Off Topic forum), I would like to have the Forums Button take me back to the forum I was just in, and not to the page that shows the list of forums. Just something small.
-
Thanks for the updates, it looks like you guys have included every suggestion I've thrown out there so far. Keep em coming.
-
The Dark feature has made a world of difference.
-
It is strange that I set my display to dark before I finished reading and found that the dark has made 77% of my displeasure for this site vanish.
-
Look forward to more too come.

Edited by Jem 7DZ: 1/26/2013 8:09:31 PMReally nice progress. I'm loving the beta. However, I would prefer comments to be displayed chronologically. :-)

What the bloody hell happened to this place?

I still really think reversing the post order is needed. Or, at least make it an option for users to decide. I just don't feel like I have any incentive to scroll down and read the old posts. At least in a oldest -> newest format, you can observe the flow of the conversation better. Right now, it just doesn't feel natural. I also wonder how it would look if the replies to a comment were NOT collapsable, however still indented. Collapsing them again just seems to hinder discussion. What's the reasoning for doing so? Just indent it to show it's a reply, but that's it. So to recap: Post order in descending order from oldest to newest and replies are not collapsable (and do not, obviously, bump the original comment up since that would screw the post order)

I'm surprised at how much more I enjoy this new layout now that I've turned the lights off. Thank you Bungie <3
-
My eyes are no longer staring at a magnitude -77 star. A hyperbole, you say? There is no such brightness, you say? You have broken physics with your website.
-
Dark background is the one. <3
-
Dark background is nice. ~TGW

The spoiler tag under the 'dark' theme is defective. The first line of characters is hidden, but the rest remain visible. (Example)

I can't say how thankful I am for getting the forum categories back. But when it comes to the dark background, it's definitely better for the eyes, but still not dark enough for my liking. I'll stick to my Stylish background.
-
Ahh, a nice dark Background! Thanks! So much easier on the eyes c: And Forums too! :D
-
bring the original layout back 0.0
-
Thanks for the updates DeeJ! ;)
-
Hurray! A dark option and the Flood/off-topic back? Sweet! Definitely awesome to be able to choose between light or dark settings.
-
Thanks, Team! WOOOOOOOH!

Edited by WAY RAD: 1/26/2013 12:54:43 AMThank the little baby jesus that you guys made a Go Dark option. I had to learn where my screen dimming feature was just to come to B.net THANK YOU FOR LISTENING and caring about my vision... EDIT: The catagories are super awesome and way rad. If you are having issues with certian pages being that awful white color, F5 that sucker and all fades to BLACK.

I'm likin the newest version of the update. One thing that I would like to see added is a 'keep me signed in feature.' It seems like I'm logged out after a very brief time away from the sight. Also nice job with the community theater vid deej.
-
Now I can start to learn the new layout with a little bit more structure :)
-
Yay. Thanks for the subtopics.
-
I am impressed, thanks, Bungie! We'll sure aid the plan for world domination - and help you finding who to put on the slingshot.
-
Everythings perfect now.Thanks!

I know there has been alot of discussion about chronological order. It takes some getting used to, but newer at the top is actually crazy helpful once you have read most of the comments to keep up with a conversation.
