Bungie.next Beta: Day TWO

Bungie Community, Welcome to the second day of our beta. It's been 24 hours, and we've detected several shifts in the weather. Feedback has been collected. Enhancements have been discussed. Work has begun on a few changes that have us even more excited about this brave new world. Keep talking to us. Migrating to this new platform for interaction is a challenge. The more you can tell us what would make things better, the better we will make things.

  • One thing I have to mention is the "X" to hide images or youtube embeds. I can barely see the X at all. It would be best if it was off to the side where it can be easily seen and clicked.

  • More private group features are absolutely imperative! >Ability to have moderators that are not admins, and tags for admins and mods similar to those in the main forum >Polls! >General ability to control member abilities and permissions >Ability to ban users from the thread they post in >Ability to search users >Ability for admins to see who leaves the group, not just who joins >Pinned threads showing up in the forum >Ability to lock threads >Ability for mods/admins to edit others' posts >Bringing back articles/FAQ's >Allow users to report posts as inappropriate >Ability to toggle thread format in private forums (old layout versus new, branched layout)

I don't like this at all. The new forums seem cluttered and hard to navigate. I'd like the separate forums back, the old layout back...everything just got so much worse IMO. Hashtags are a great way of organizing threads, but personally I don't like them. Also, the white hurts my eyes, and the social media links make me want to burn something. Also, I want my Mythic bar back. Edit: Where the hell did multiple pages go? And why doesn't a topic move to the top of a page when I post in it? Edit 2: Bungie, I think the new update is going to lose a lot of people, things aren't nearly as organized as they used to be...I may still come here, but I'm sure if you keep this system, there's no way I'm going to be posting anymore.

How about a toggle for white on black or black on white? Also, the header on the browser window should change as you navigate the site, saying what private group or what thread you're in. It makes it easier when I open up Firefox to type the first few letters of the private group and automatically go straight to it.

          • It's been said a billion times and it needs to be said again to make sure they come back: BRING BACK SUBFORUMS! Use pages for threads again and not infinite scrolling. Dump replying and make quoting the main reply method again. Make posts in chronological order. This old design of threads was absolutely perfect, and jumping in on a discussion was easy.

            • there's a 1,5 inch thick grey vertical bar to the left.. See it? Please have it removed. It's not aestheticly appealing and serves no purpose.

I absolutely love the new site, hands down. I just think that the hashtags need to be tweaked a little to provide a tad more structure, they can be a little hectic. And maybe re-order the posts so that it reads in chronological order from top to bottom. Plus, bigger avatars would be nice. Please, dear Lord, please keep doing this sort of thing! EDIT: Now that I remember, Superintendent emoticons would be awesome - but that may be a long shot...

If this system is going to stay, I think these would be good fixes: -New posts bump threads. It may not work in the mains, but it would be useful in Private Groups. -I'm okay with the order of the posts, with the most recent at the top. Although, that should remain the same for the Replies in a comment too. It seems that in replies, it's from the bottom up. -Dedicated forums, Flood, Community, Gaming. The tag system for forums causes too much blending. I liked being able to bounce between the people who hung out in the Community Forum and the people that hung out in the Flood. There were different cultures within BNet and I enjoyed that. -Forum Titles! Perhaps a small banner next to our username. Mythic, Legendary, etc. -Like buttons for each post, or no like button at all. I really dig the overall look of the website though. Looks sleek and new.

              • Also, the "view at your own risk" box should display the URL of what's hidden, either in the box or upon mouseover. I think the reason for this should be obvious.

                    • Dark text plane. Also, could there be a page search? I was annoyed at the fact that I had to click through individual pages, or five at a time. A search feature would be much more efficient.

I'm pretty sure that ideas of separate forums, and toning down the background color of the forum have been said at least a few hundred times already, so I really don't have anymore to say. Anyways, when can we expect the final product of the website?

                      • DeeJ, I've been reguarly using Bungie.Next for a little bit. I understand how it works, and am able to use it. I still don't enjoy the subtraction of multiple forums. This new system that relies solely on tags is... cumbersome. On the off chance you read this, I hope you'll consider this during one of your meetings: Have the old Forums return, but continue using the tagging system. (I've been using this next example a lot in the last day.) Say I'm in the Flood browsing and enter a thread on Halo 4. I finish reading the thread, but instead of exiting the thread and going back to the Flood, I decide to click on the tag "Halo 4". It takes me to a page listing the threads in the Flood tagged under "Halo 4". I don't see anything I like, so I click on a button that expand the list to show all threads tagged under Halo 4, regardless of which Forum it was posted in. Using this model, the community keeps the forums (Let's not beat around the bush, a majority preferred the old way.), but we also retain the social media aspect you guys want to retain with tagging. Please consider using this system, and writing replies in standard forum format (No replies, just quote trains. Also, regular chronological order, oldest post first.) Purely social media sights are too loosely based. We are a tight knit community, social media won't work for us, but a Sub-Forums with Social Media aspects would be just swell. Thanks for paying attention to us instead of just going ahead and doing whatever you want like most developers.

                      • My list of suggestions: 1. Bring the ODST Trophy avatar back! 2,3,4(...)Pretty much what everyone else is saying. We need multiple forums, oldest post first, black back, etc. However, one thing I must congratulate you on is the new User Interface. Very nice.

                      • Personally, I love the new system, everything is great, hashtags are great. The only request I have is to re-implement security roles in groups, aside from admin and member, and to reinstate sub-forums, if only for a little bit more organization. In a word, the forums feel very cluttered at the moment.

                      • I was always one for linear display of replies and having quotes available to reply to some older posts that might have been skipped over. Im willing to give this new system a go, but it seems a lot more scrambled and harder to really get a view of every reply. Also, i can see countless threads that just get buried by new threads before having been replied to because the only way to see any new thread is by Latest. But even then it goes from showing a thread that is 27 minutes old to a thread that is 4 minutes old. It doesnt seem to really show the latest threads first. Theres a good chance that im probably just not understanding it though. Just some thoughts i had. Thank you.

                      • What I really dislike about the new design is the fact that it mingles off-topic threads with community threads. In the old version the Flood/Off-Topics forum goers would stay in their own corner and talk about the stuff they talk about. Now everything is mixed up. Click on the community hashtag and you have some weird off-topic thread. Please make this stop. Sub-forums with hastags should works better than this concept of no sub -forums and only hashtags.

                      • Being able to comment on the original post from any reply would be absolutely spiffing.

                      • I'm finding the nested replies especially awkward. You know someone's posted in that thread - without going to 'most recent', you can't find nested replies. If there's more than one new nested reply in different nests - it can be impossible to find some of them, because they're collapsed and can't be travelled directly to.

                        • I appreciate the work you guys have done. But pl0x listen to every piece of feedback. We are aiding you in the creation and formation of this site. If this site sucks, I'll mount your heads on my wall. Don't worry, Alduin's skull will give you some company. Lol, I'm just joking. Here's some ideas: -Return of Subforums -Chronological post order -Thread pages instead of scrolling -Change colour to black -Titles
