not, repeat, not marathon

Let's just put it out there straight and simple. Halo does not take place in the Marathon universe, or vice versa. It doesnt. Here's a few reasons. 1. Bungie said so. 2. Different dates. 3. Name of the ship is Forward Unto Dawn, not Marathon. 4. Different aliens. 5. Bungie said so. I'm not trying to flame anyone, i just want to put it out there so i stop seeing tons of threads "OMG!1!! MARATHON=HALO!!!111"

 •
Posted by: SnakeSniper741 uh, no. that's a bit waaaaay too far-fetched.
How is it far fetched? 150 years ago everyone thought the idea of an automobile would get you thrown into an asylum.

 • Just about reason number 4...you do realize that in Halo 1 the only aliens were the Covenant and the Flood. Whereasin Halo 2 there were Brutes and Buggers and Prophets (even though they are a part of the Covenant they were still introduced) So the point that new Aliens are the enemy doesn't really matter.

 •
Posted by: MergedKestrel well here you have it
Didn't Halo 2 originally intend to have a different ending? Marty said something about it in the latest podcast. Perhaps that ending was still in place when the article was written, and Halo 2 would have ended the story arc.

 • If you look at The History of Bungie, you'll discover that Bungie's old game ideas show up in future games.

 •
Posted by: Nemesis087
Posted by: ShadowWolf346
Posted by: haloplayer2kill
Posted by: seifer frost Truthfully i would rather Halo and marathon be different, but chief did go into cryo and why isint cortana there? well she just cant live that long, the AI's have limited lifespans, go read the books. It sucks but its true. and Chief wouldent have to start "marathon" coming out of cryo, there is a good 200 years where ANYTHING could happen, especially with the unpredictibility of the shaw fukijawa (sp?) engines/ cores. it could go anywhich way
Actually if Halo and Marathon are connected, Marthon would not take place like 200 years after Halo in the Halo Universe because Marathon takes place in a different universe (possably a paralel universe). So if they did connect the Games MC would have to go into the Marathon universe which could have happened at the end of Halo 3.
What causes you to make these wild assumptions? You are over thinking this by way too much. I mean I don't think it was supposed to be disputed that the planet or artificial planet at the end was of Forerunner origins and yet everyone would much rather think that instead of something reasonable like that, that some how he jumped god damn universes all because of a portal chopping the ship in half. With that logic the MC could have ended up in the same universe as Star Wars and that is the damn Death Star. The lack of intelligence in these threads is down right insulting to the human race to be completely honest.
That would be hella funny if he was in the Star Wars universe. Master Chief vs. Darth Vader, lol.
meow

 • Why is everyone having a nerdoff over this. WAIT AND SEE you are too busy trying to ruin a good surprise. But in order to not make a waste of space here is my idea. Portal Closes- Frigate Split- Cheif goes to forunner shield planet (onyx), or marathon either one will work.

 • the same character can be in 2 different universes, it's not that obscure. if there wasn't some connection of some kind, Marathon wouldn't make mention to the Mark IVs.

 • Clearly Master Chief will be an unannounced unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Halo 3 segues into Smash Bros, and they explain it with Peter Jackson's trilogy. Of course.

 • The stoyies are similar because bungie created both games, so of course they will have a likeness to each other. And also, Anyone can saying something on Wikipedia to throw someone else off. [Edited on 10.25.2007 8:11 PM PDT]

Read the halo novels, or if you only want to read the two that will add the most to the story, read Halo: Fall of Reach, and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. Or just search around on the internet. Wikipedia is good.

 •
Posted by: Snowplowinator Then what is the planet in the Legendary ending for? There is no Halo 4. 200 years after? He went into cryogenic stasis! Anything is possible. Why would Bungie ever admit it? They love to keep their little secrets.
Yes there is no halo 4 But, branching off is a possibility. The chief could be brought back later in the halo franchise if bungie finds making a game taking place in the future would be cool. Now, they may of just left chief in the ship cause they didn't want to kill him, or this is all part of a larger plot. No one said they didn't plan ahead while making halo 3. Or, they make a new trilogy. What ever they feel like doing is cool as long as they make an awesome game with another awesome story [Edited on 10.24.2007 6:33 PM PDT]

 •
1. Bungie said so. 2. Different dates. 3. Name of the ship is Forward Unto Dawn, not Marathon. 4. Different aliens. 5. Bungie said so.
1. Alex Seropian said MC and SO were the same character 2. Marathon takes place 200 years after Halo 3. MC is cryo-frozen, possibly allowing him to live for so long, OR if you go with the alternate universes thing that a bungie employee said at a later date, the portal to the ark that sliced Foward Unto Dawn in half, might have sent MC's half into an alternate universe, IE the marathon universe. Theres a thread on that. 3. Yeah, the name of the ship MC is in is forward unto dawn. Marathon is the big planet-sized colony ship or w/e that is widely believed to be the planet that Foward unto dawn is floating towards in the legendary ending of Halo 3. There's a marathon logo on the planet. 4. There ARE different aliens in the halo universe. At the end of halo 3, the flood that escaped containment are destroyed, the rest are still contained. The covenant is dead, the elites go back to sanghelios, humans would prosper, and in marathon, the human civilization is HUGE. 200 years with no competition for colonization tends to do that to a race. 5. Alex Seropian said they're in the same universe (also read alternate universe theory)
