51 years ago today, combined forces from America, Britain, France, and Canada made the largest amphibious landing in human history, braving machine gun fire and harsh weather on the beaches of Normandy, France. Through their brave sacrifices and herioc efforts, the face of freedom was eventually preserved throughout the world as the -blam!-s were slowly driven back into Germany and defeated.
I'm very greateful to those brave men, not much older than I am, who were on the beach that day, taking place in what I consider to be one of the most important events in modern history.
I dunno, I just felt like pointing it out.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't insult the german defenders. I have a long german histroy, and by no means do I endorse the genocide committed by the SELECT FEW germans who were in tune with hitler's ideas. The rest were just men, who saw fit to defend the country that had been through so much. Remember - most of the German army wanted Hitler dead. When you insult someone for being german you are just as bad as Himmler or Hitler himself. They were merely carrying out orders - not desperately trying to slaughter as many Americans as possible and get pleasure out of it. You have been watching too many biased American WW2 movies. The german soldiers were not just faceless cannon fodder. They were actually the most skilled and organised army at the time - but were short of allies. They had very organised and deadly panzer divisions and extremely skilled paratroopers that could take a fortified town in 2 days. Please do not look down on the -blam!- soldiers because they were german. They were merely men following orders. Do you think that my 56 year old great grandfather wanted to carry around a panzerfaust in the last few weeks ofthe war and get shot in his kneecaps by a group of Russians after surrenderig? Think before you accuse.
