I know this sounds weird, but I've always found the symbol of the hashtag to be a bit of an eyesore. Now I know this is a bit nit-picky, but seeing the amount of effort that went into creating a slick looking layout with great structure and all of these amazing features added in, I can't help but look at hashtags and feel that in some way they take away from the neatness or sharpness of the sites design.
The function they serve in connection people and helping to filter content is AWESOME, but they themselves from an aesthetic point (once again, maybe only to me) seem tacky. Do we NEED to utilize them? Could we not just filter by using words, or was there a direct reason for the inclusion of them?

#we need subforums back

i hate them yorkie

It's all apparent now, we must change hashtags to something new. $Believe $Helveck2013

Nope. you're in line behind me.

Edited by Bitty: 1/15/2013 5:06:49 AMMaybe hashtags could be replaced by another symbol but they really improve the search system. For example: When we search for a post we no longer get everything with the word 'sky' we only get things that have been tagged 'sky'. It makes it so much easier to find things now.

Edited by Kickimanjaro: 1/15/2013 5:00:33 AMI'll be honest. I dislike hastags but I like their function on this specific website. Perhaps they could changing appearance, or something, but I don't like how under my followed tags I see that # on each one. I know they are #'d, that's how we link them in posts, but I feel that this site would be much "cleaner" if the tags appeared without the # unless mentioned in the body of a post. Basically, I have a very silly complaint: I don't like the "#" symbol appearing so much on the webpage and I feel that this is unnecessary. The only place that I feel a # should be used and visible on my end is when mentioned in the body of a post. I feel the # should be a mechanic and not a style, a function not a thing in and of itself. This may be silly, but for some reason I feel strongly about it. For example, I currently follow the tags #Feedback, #Community, and #Help. Now these appear on the left side under Followed Tags on every forum page. I like this for utility but do not find it aesthetically pleasing. I would rather see the list sans #'s, as Feedback, Community, and Help. #feedback

I agree that they could be aesthetically better, but it's all about standardization. I'm fine either way, the only thing that bugs me is that some of the tags are displayed in a fashion that is properly capitalized and others appear that are lowercase. For example, we have #feedback, but we have #Community as well. It should be one or the other, not both =\

Hashtags gave birth to the cumguzzlingsemendemon. #cumguzzlingsemendemon

+1 for a reasonable, well though out opinion on the tag system. I agree getting rid of the '#' would probably be for the best ( and have been advocating this change ) simply because it seems to be causing so much confusion. The aesthetics are immaterial to me, I don't care if they're hashtags or colontags or wombat tags or whatever; it's the purpose we serve that I think is really cool :)
-
Something uniquely Bungie would probably be better. What would make it uniquely Bungie though? 7s? Dink? Some other symbol? Someone make a lightning bolt or septagon symbol, and politely ask Bungie to use that instead of the # symbol.
-
I concur. They are ugly. Bungie could still use the system without having a hashtag.
-
But.....#Dragons!!!!
-
I don't know why we can't just use them but get rid of the # part. There is a field when creating a new thread that you enter the hashtags into so why not just type Feedback Community Hashtags? Why is the # necessary?
-
or was there a direct reason for the inclusion of them?
Yes, to "enhance" the individuality of the Bnet user experience, supposedly. Now the hashtags create forums of their own in which we are supposed to visit often because we enjoy the "hash tagged" topic. In principle, it's a good idea. But the old farts who enjoyed the perfect UI of Bnet and sub-forums may not be privy to such a thought. I know I'm not liking it too much thus far. Also, #Dragons

I'm fairly indifferent towards them. Using them ironically stopped being funny a long time ago, though.

Edited by Payola: 1/11/2013 2:25:33 AMNever been a big fan of it even on the bigger social networking sites.

You are not alone, i despise them and think it was silly to put them on a site that will outlast the hashtag joke as it were.

I absolutely HATE hashtags...

I really don't. Such a copy off of twitter. It's kind of useful though. I'd like it if it wasn't such a main focus...
