  • I know this sounds harsh, but one more dead soldier doesn't really make a difference... Or does it? We should all value human life more than we do now, but that is not how the Islamic people see it. They see the death of a suicide bomber as glorious, as that is the only way they have ever seen it. If we were all raised in an empathetic and caring environment, we wouldn't have problems with war or racism or religion. We would all honour the sacred gift that we have that is life. Of course, the Buddhists believe in reincarnation, which sends that entire theory down in the drain for them. However, I being a Roman Catholic, I put a higher value on my own life, as it is all I have. I do not want to die, not because I fear for my skin, but because I believe that there is so much more I can do with my life to help others and make others lives better. To understand that not everyone sees things as you do is one step, but to go about showing people the meaning of perspective is entirely another. The death of this soldier is a tragic case of fear and hatred breaking over that wall of comfort that we surround ourselves with. You must, however, understand that the people who did this do not necessarily see this as a bad thing. They are using the death of this man as a way of communicating to the other people in the area. They do not want change in their country. And their is the one key problem. They do not want change. They feel better with how they are living right now, and cannot accept that we are trying to make their lives better. This can be frustrating, for how can you live in a utopia if people don't want to live with you? Our hate mongering over here shows that we are no better then the people over in the middle east. How good can you be, if you want to do the same thing to them as they do to you? There is no such thing as a just war. It cannot be. The only wars you should fight are ones that are attacking you. We, as civil and humane being, should always be on the defensive, if we are fighting at all. The only, and I mean only, thing even possibly worth going somewhere else to fight for is Equality. This is because you have as much right to hurt them, as they have of not being hurt. [Edited on 6/18/2004 12:24:04 PM]
