• Sweet! I'll join the chorus in hoping that the whole "worst case senario" doesn't doesn't go through and we get the whole trilogy as downloadable content or completely new arcade downloads! I'd pay extra for them!!! Okay now here's a suggestion to pass on to Microsoft. I know back in the day before joining up with MS, Bungie had it's share of financial issues and sold Oni and Myth off to Take2 for various reasons. Well now it seems that Take2 is having it's share of financial ups and downs, so maybe MS could do Bungie a favor for all the good Bungie's done and buy those properties back. It could be helpful somewhat to Take2 financially and could open the door to some other cool live arcade ports.... and if Bungie ever wanted to revisit either of those series, even better. Even if they don't maybe they could write the plot for a new Myth or Oni and hand it off to someone like Freeverse (or someone else who knows what they're doing as well) to develop it for 360 as a full blown next-gen graphics beauty or a nice Live Arcade game. Tell me that wouldn't be cool! You can't, cause it would. [Edited on 07.17.2007 5:43 PM PDT]

 • Wow, I loved the Marathon series when I was younger... Oh the memories.... Can't really say if I'm excited that its coming out now for the 360, seeing as now one of my favorite childhood memories will probably be ruined by listening to hordes of ten-year-olds screaming into my ear every time they get a kill.... Still, Its Marathon 2! For The Xbox! EAT IT Vid Boi!!!!!!

 •
Posted by: Recon Number 54
Posted by: Hippieman I want to be clear. 8 Player Coop was always in Marathon from day one (back in 93). Just getting 8 Macs together and keeping the game in sync was a rare thing. For 8 player Coop you still will want a host with a decent connection, but even when we stressed the connection the game (the 360 version) stayed intact.
Must be my memory. I recall 8 player MP, but always thought that Co-Op was 2 player only. Maybe I never got 8 people together on the old Farallon network. Please forgive my reaction.
Then you probably never tried it (doesn't matter much though), though I must say that once you have more than 4 people, hallways become cramped, but I have done several 8 person coop games.

 •
Posted by: jessHAZ And are those actual 3D enemy models? Sexay...
3D models rendered out in detail and turned into sprites. This was only done to keep in the flavor of the original game, and so we could mix and match HD and SD players (IE in a network game everyone can use different settings).

 •
Posted by: Tater Salad jr I heard that Halo 3 will be running at 30 fps, yet Marathon: Durandal XBLA will be running at 60?!? How does that work, have I recieved false information? It just seems strange that a redone arcade game will have twice the frame rate as the long awaited console game, Halo 3.
No offence, but are you -blam!- retarded?

Things you can toggle on and off: Crosshairs Vibration Weapon Bob effect (if you get motion sickness this can help remove it) HD Graphics As for no fan content. It's restrictions with MS and also an issue of scale. Feasibility of a retro arcade game that costs $10 is way less when you look at a DVD title with the power of Halo 3. Now I probably know the least about Halo 3 here, but if Bungie wanted a map editor they could do it. Also content created on a 360 that stays on a 360 can be passed around. Its when you develop on computer and bring it over that it becomes an issue.
*starts break dancing*

Thanks for showing off your reading comprehension skills though. Like I said, I heard Halo 3 will run at 30 fps ( I'm not saying that it does, I'm just saying that's what I heard ). Hell, Madden '08 runs at 30 fps on the PS3, so its not exactly a bad thing. I just thought it was strange how an arcade game will be running at twice that.

 • *drools* DO WANT. Wow, I knew it was only a matter of time before a Marathon game was ported over to XBL Arcaded. But they went beyond a simple port!! True 3D! Kick ass! I'm also assuming this will have online multiplayer modes. They didn't directly state it, but It's a safe bet. I CAN'T WAIT.

 • 60 frames per second takes a lot of processing power for one thing. Arcade games can go 60 frames due to how the games aren't straining the system at all, so the left over processing power is used increase from rate. Gears of War runs at 30 frames per second, but that game requires tons of processing, graphically and etc. Marathon 2 released ten years ago, so the game was make with ten year ago standards. The 360 is a powerful machine, so they upped the frame rate to 60. Halo 3 will take a lot of processing power, so Bungie decided that better game play is more important then the number of frames per second. [Edited on 07.17.2007 8:22 PM PDT]

 • I just downloaded the game for PC, wow. I could care less for the single player, it reminds me of doom. All I care about is multilayer, its is so much fun. On the PC we got to seven people in the match, but lag set in and it was bad. So I can't wait till quality multi player is achieved. By the way, dual double barrel shot guns are crazy fun. Edit: I just did an 8 player match. The connection dropped out on me, but it was fun while it lasted. I had something like the Thompson, and I was mowing down everyone. But yeah, summery: 30 frames per second - more processing power for games 60 frames per second - less processing power for games.
If they didn't purposefully lock it at 60/make higher resolution assets and kept it all the original game, I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 could go over 300-400 fps EASILY.
