Yep. I will be buying this game. No doubt about it. I just want a release date. This will be my first Marathon game too.
-
Well, hopefully in the future we might see Marathon and Marathon Infinity as DLC for Marathon: Durandal.
-
Out of the only three so far unreleased arcade games I care about, this is one of them. I just hope that no one complains about the graphics. Some idiots don't realize the Halo 3 graphics are somewhat new. [Edited on 07.17.2007 4:18 PM PDT]

HOLY -blam!- AWESOME Note to self: get an Xbox.
-
It looks great. I'll probably break down and pay for it (after previously saying I wouldn't). I really want to know what the achievements are. Also if we can turn the reticle off. I'll feel like noob if I can't.

Looks stunning! I think I'll have to replay Marathon 1, as I forgot some of the story. Can't wait! See you guys online!
-
*drools* Bungie & Freeverse...you done good.
-
Well, considering you could only pick one, you made the right choice. 3 was way to -blam!- confusing I would still like to see the others on XBLA in the future. Perhaps if the first port does well, we may be able to see this? But 1 had potato sailboats! (Crist) - Couch Fishing, Terminal 2 [Edited on 07.17.2007 4:29 PM PDT]
Brand new networking layer. Instead of using the old Marathon networking system, we implemented a new one with ReplicaNet. This allows the game to play smooth and reliably over the Internet, something the original Marathon 2 could not do. This also allow for online coop play with up to 8 players (the original supported 8 players, but getting the game to not fall apart was another story).
allow me to repeat what caught my eye.
this also allow for online coop play with up to 8 players
does that REALLY mean what it says?

guys, this thing is awesome!! Can't wait for it...also, there's that one part in the interview when he said that they can't put in fan content (meaning maps, weapons, etc). He said it was not a limitaion of the game itself, but rather a limitation of the Xbox 360. All content must be approved by Microsoft before it can run on a Xbox 360. So I don't think that "forge" in Halo 3 would be a map maker, which i think i read somewhere in another thread.
-
I've never played any Marathon but from what I heard it looks great. I can't wait, we know we'll have it this summer but when?.... 8 players coop... wow I've never seen that.

That looks really fun and for me its a must have!

I want to be clear. 8 Player Coop was always in Marathon from day one (back in 93). Just getting 8 Macs together and keeping the game in sync was a rare thing. For 8 player Coop you still will want a host with a decent connection, but even when we stressed the connection the game (the 360 version) stayed intact. Things you can toggle on and off: Crosshairs Vibration Weapon Bob effect (if you get motion sickness this can help remove it) HD Graphics As for no fan content. It's restrictions with MS and also an issue of scale. Feasibility of a retro arcade game that costs $10 is way less when you look at a DVD title with the power of Halo 3. Now I probably know the least about Halo 3 here, but if Bungie wanted a map editor they could do it. Also content created on a 360 that stays on a 360 can be passed around. Its when you develop on computer and bring it over that it becomes an issue.

I recall 8 player MP, but always thought that Co-Op was 2 player only. Maybe I never got 8 people together on the old Farallon network. Please forgive my reaction.

Bungie isn't doing this, It's a different company, called Freeverse. So "ur" Halo 3 development won't be hampered. This will definitely be a must buy for me. I remember the first time I loaded up Marathon 1 on my Performa 636. Good times.

im trying 2 dload it on the computer at the source.bungie.org...its not working

I personally like Marathon better than Halo, I don't know why, I just do. I don't know how there going to do 8 people using a terminal though, what if someone accesses it while someoe else is fighting?

And regardless...WHO CARES? It's Marathon. I may be a huge Halo fanboy (bigger than Marathon) but I do like that Bungie history is coming to the XBLA. I mean come on, this is MARATHON, the game that pretty much set the stage for Bungie to make Halo.
Posted by: MC187 *crickets*....Does anyone care?
I do. I never played a Marathon game before.
