People who know things about speakers

I need help, as I literally know nothing about them. My bose companion 2s broke, and I need a new pair. I don't have an amp or anything. If I get a pair of "bookshelf speakers", will they work with my computer and iphone right out of the box, or do I have to buy an amp to go with them? Same thing with "center station" speakers. I don't want to have to buy an amp or any extra electronics. I simply want speakers that I can plug in, plug into my computer, and have them work. Will either of these come ready to go, or do I have to buy a strictly computer speaker?

Only problem is you'd never be able to make them portable.
