An excellent post, to say the least. The only thing I would add would be to go back to the old thread status indicators (The webmaster and plus, the webmaster and flames (maybe different levels of flames), the septagon, etc.) as it added more character to the site and made it stand out more; made it less linear compared to other forums.
I didn't notice that they hadn't ACTUALLY fixed the search function. C'mon, guys. Is it really that difficult to make a functioning search function that works like all the others?

Search isn't broken, it just only searches for tags, by design. We may add a full text search in the future, but finding something both performant and effective is hard (especially given bungie.net is competely custom code, including the forums). With tag search, the need for a full text forum search becomes significantly less important. That's good, because we have a huge todo list that has lots of more important work than more forum search. Just use google if it means that much to you.

If you don't mind, what is it that it did before? By design, that is. I'm just wondering because there'd be times when I used to search an exact thread title, or exact thread passage and that wouldn't be any of the results, and I never really understood how exactly it operated.

It operated poorly.
