"Of Mice And Men" Exam tips?

I've got an English exam on the novel "Of Mice And Men" tomorrow. If anyone has read the book, and undergone an exam/assessment etc. Any tips or hints, or certain scenes or language that could score me me some high marks? Cheers guys.

 •
Posted by: xH u 7V tt 3 R When the man with the dog claims that he should have killed the dog himself, it foreshadows (the man who killed Lenny) killing Lenny.
You mean when George kills Lenny, and the dog getting killed represents George killing Lenny, because the person who shot the dog didn't kill Lenny.

 • I did an essay on Of Mice And Mean a while back, and what can I really say? 1. Don't plagurise, adapt any ideas you may find on the web. 2. Focus on constant foreshadowings of what is to come, make it emphasise that throughout the story, there are constant foreshadowings of Lenny's death. 3. The whole book is set in a circular structure, a circle, that according to the start, George and Lennie are trapped in. Make emphasis on how, throughout each chapter, a circle is reflected, wherein although events happen that make an emphasis, ultimately nothing changes. Expand on how, although the large event of Lennie's death happened, ultimately the circle will continue for George reflecting how each chapter reflects this. 4.Refer to how, looking at the other character's, specifically Crooks and Candy, they show signs they too where once in this circular structure, and that eventually, it has made them world weary, leaving them in a hard to escape from position, to which they almost seem ready to die, wanting to drown in Nostalgia of their past, before they where forced into the circle, Crook's for this especially. 5. Refer to the fact that they constantly quote this dream, and how this can reflect the American dream, that it is unreachable, as anybody who does not fit in is killed, or looked down upon, seen as a lower case of existence, Crooks, Lenny, Candy specifically, and how even if you do fit in, you are just the little man, a stepping stool for things larger than yourself to use you, and crush your dreams. Thank me later.

 • Watch the film, its pretty good (will hopefully support what you already know) and what type? GCSE or an A-Level exam? Also do what Foman mentions, this free writing and you will ace your test - potentially blow the socks of the wrinkly old moderator thats going to read your test, you will have essentially ruined her self integrity and destroyed her perceptions of the english language

I call it a substitution of letters to find the appropriate expression.

 • Its important to understand why the Mice won. They had advanced cybernetics and Mecha. The men were only fighting with Uzi's and hand grenades. The balance here is important as it symbolizes Master Chief's battle against the Metroids. Now, in Chapter 7, the WH40K Space Marine Punches Marcus Fenix. This seemed a bit random, but the background character of Captain Price is meant to be a symbol of futility in revenge. Don't forget to show Mario doing a Fus Do Rah shout against Dr Wiley. That was a key moment, a watershed if you will for the whole struggle. Hope this helps!

 • I could give a list, but meh. Just remember there is a lot of stuff to do with the character's dreams, and how they are crushed. Lots of foreshadowing to.

 • Main themes are of loneliness and dreams. Steinbeck is showing how the american dream is not as it seems. Shows how all areas of society are affected by the depression: George: the working-class Lennie: the Mentally handicapped Candy: the Elderly Crooks: the ethnic minorities Curley's wife: women
