It seems pretty obvious that the 'title' system implemented here on Bnet is a behavioral modifier. Their function is to inspire newcomers to Bnet to become functioning members of an internet community. You did your homework, Timmy? Here's a shiny sticker.
There was a time when I was fascinated with the prospect of gaining and, with the help of some satirical threads on the topic, flaunting a title. I'm sure many of you at some point shared this sentiment. It's in our nature to express accomplishment and the title is our means to do so.
Despite this, I have found that as you gain more experience with Bnet (or forums in general) the title system loses its novelty. It loses its relevancy as users stop conducting themselves according to some construct and move towards conducting themselves on their own free will. While I agree with the systems intent, I do not agree with its current 'ball and chain' policy.
I believe that when a member reaches this point they should be given the option to 'opt out' of the system. What static title might replace the variant is really up for debate. The best route, in my opinion, is to just to remain Grateful Zebra | Member. However, they could range from Grateful Zebra | Dead Orbit to Grateful Zebra | Master Forum Zebra.

tl;dr:
If you were given to opportunity to opt out of the current title system, would you? What static titles would you like to see offered if such a feature was implemented?

I would be fine with opting out. In all honesty, if I get any of the not-banned-for-x-amount-of-time prefixes over Fabled I'll just do something to get banned. I wouldn't want static titles so much as the absence of titles. We don't need false indicators, and the lack of moderator/web team/employee title would be more than enough to determine one as a member.

I am happy with what is already given.. There is nothing else I need.
-
But I love my blue bar.
-
Only in your mind. It only matters if you make it matter in a negative way. Besides, blue is a nice calming color. ~Delta
Posted by: MasterSin
Posted by: Bungie Sam Our titles are a neat way of proving commitment to this site, but it segregates us and creates an unnecessary hierarchy.
This.
Read that as "put out". Leaves thread

And shirts. ~Delta
Posted by: cortana 5 I'll save myself some time and just shamelessly agree with Helveck here. Everyone knows that I'm just here for the attention.
Posted by: Helveck But I like being better than everyone else... So why the hell would I opt out of a sign that blatantly tells the general public that I am?

Now, I'm just on verge on getting a Colored title bar like SonicJohn =)
Posted by: TheOne008 I finally got heroic added! But I think it should be user chosen, related to destiny would be awesome, factions or something similar. : )
I concur.
Posted by: Grateful Zebra
Posted by: im am b0red | Veteran Legendary Member
You would get Veteran Legendary Member before I posted this thread.
As your superior I declare this thread invalid.

I'd keep it in, but to be truthful I don't feel the titles really mean anything. I tend to get bored of the internet from time to time and go off to do other things. Were I able to keep from getting bored and come on here more often, I could easily be a Mythic blahblahblah right now. I mean it is a bummer you have to be very very active for that amount of time, but I think it is fine the way it is.
-
But people need to know that I'm awesome.
-
If there were really cool static titles... maybe?
-
I'd rather just see the title system go completely. I can't stand the elitist BS that goes along with them, both from the have's and the have not's.
-
I like my medium-high podium...
-
I don't really see anything wrong with the title system to the extent that it needs to be removed or have an option for people to "opt out;" to me, that just seems silly. If titles don't matter to a user, then why should they need to opt out?
-
I'd say that if someone were to hold that blue bar for a period of time (say a year) they will be able to have their title taken away completely (even the line between their name and their title), and just have their name, and maybe even choose the colour of their title bar? (Within reason, nothing very bright, to keep with the darker theme of the site.
-
I like the system. It shows how 'goody goody' someone is with rules and that they've been an active, loyal member to Bungie. One who doesn't have a title, couldn't understand until you get a title. (BTW, before I got a title I had your mentality) Ya dig?
-
I'm fine with the way it is.

I'm surprised there aren't more people who lied and said yes.
-
No. I rather like the title system, though I would perhaps like a color change for the Legendary bar. To pretty much anything, actually. Maybe a nice crimson or green.
-
Get rid of the base titles. There, two birds with one stone.
-
If I could have a static title? Dead Orbit is Best Orbit.
