The biggest flop in Halo 4's Canon

The biggest flop in Halo 4 Canon is really how the hell are marines breathing in Space without some kind of EVA Suit or helmet in the Space Station mission. Where Chief sees the Composer for the first time. There's a breach in the Station intregrity and later in the mission Covies come straight through it. No depressuration and no lost of atomsphere. Try to explain some kind of reasoning to me

 • Are you serious OP? The Station has shields you don't see that field emanating from the composer? not to mention you had to turn shields on so the covenant could stop getting in. The biggest "flop" is the Didact and what is going on with him not something as stupid as this.
Posted by: OrderedComa
Posted by: flamedude I still don't really get the H4 campaign. Why did the Chief and Cortana think firing one missile at one of three Covie cruisers, from the wreck of the Dawn, would accomplish anything?
I don't think that was supposed to be some long term solution, the whole reason you were launching the missile was because of the cruiser bearing down on the wreckage to either blast it with Plasma Torpedoes or glass it with the Energy Projector. So I thought the missile was just to deal with the one cruiser to buy at least a little bit more time to reach and escape pod. *shrug* That's my understanding of that particular part of the level anyway.
Thats all it was, nothing complicated. •
Posted by: flamedude I think that level is one of the most disappointing anti-climactic levels of all Halo games. You pass the Composer for the first time and it is surrounded by soldiers, turrets and Mantis mechs. When I passed those guys I immediately thought "Well we'll be back here soon, and this is going to be an amazing battle"..... but nope. That just doesn't happen. It's like Tip of the Spear all over again.
I thought the same thing, but the lack of corpses and nicely parked mantis's means one thing. The general evac order applied to those guys as well and they got the hell out of there :P.
Posted by: SOME cGUY789 I don't know the fact that they can talk while in a vacuum, kind of makes me believe the station has some form of atmoshperic shielding that only fails once the MC returns to the area.
I think that's pretty much it. First time it's shielded from space. Second time the shielding is destroyed or disabled, hence why the phantoms and banshees are able to fly in.

I mean yeh, I was hoping for a better showdown around the composer, but the rest was great.
It did a good job showing the Covenant as horrifying killing machines. the first time you walk into the hangar and that Jackal does that Velociraptor jump onto the poor scientist while Energy sword Elites are spilling out of Phantoms and all the people are running for dear life. I also loved how Tilson was shocked that the Covenant were shooting down the escape craft. It's pretty much the Covenant's day job to destroy escape pods. I would have loved a Scarab show up for the Composer fight though.

I mean yeh, I was hoping for a better showdown around the composer, but the rest was great.
I think I phrased it poorly but I meant specifically that moment where you pass the small UNSC army with the suggestion that you will return at some point and fight alongside them against a Covenant attack...... but that just doesn't happen. I'd compare it to the intro cutscene to Tip of the Spear, where you see the huge UNSC army and get excited about the upcoming MEGA BATTLE but that just..... doesn't happen. I still don't really get the H4 campaign. Why did the Chief and Cortana think firing one missile at one of three Covie cruisers, from the wreck of the Dawn, would accomplish anything?

 • Its the station shielding like you see in the first mission when the Covie drop ships smash through the glass and drop off its occupants.

 • I expected the Composer to have an AI and you'd have a conversation with it or something before Didact stole it. Guess not. I felt there were other flaws in canon than that. I'm trying to fit the composing of humans for combat forces into the Forerunner triology and the Halo 3 terminals.

I'm sure it had shields like the ones in Anchor 9. UNSC space stations usually have shields and and outer barricade for it. Think Star Wars.

They've got experience with breathing in depressurised vacuum.
This explains why the Marines in the far left corner of the Infinity's launch bay appear to be wearing N7 armor. OT: I too had trouble differentiating between Vacuum areas and pressurized areas. For example, when I was doing a legendary run on the Dawn, I died in the Missile courtyard and when I respawned my gun fire and all sounds in general weren't muted as they'd be in Vacuum. While that may have been a glitch, the Composer staging area seems to be sheathed in a pressurized energy sheet. Maybe the entire envelope isn't visible from inside the station.
I'd have to play it again to check, but IIRC when you FIRST go through the room it's still sealed. The Second time it when there is the deactivated shield where the banshees and phantoms come in from.

 • They station would've taken time to vent all the oxygen so there would still be breathable air for a short time.

 • Because they've inherited the badass capabilities of Sgt. Johnson (minus teleporting, resurrection, and invincibility), who can be seen breathing in space on Cairo Station.
