Like, does the future of their company rely so heavily on destiny or do they have some cushion?
-
Be Brave. Have faith in Bungie.
-
I'm sure they have some cushion if by some chance Destiny fails; the question is how much. Moot point anyway, since I'm pretty confident Bungie won't disappoint.
-
Posted by: POKEY CLYDE Make or break... possibly. Do they have a cushion? Not really. But Bungie failing is not going to happen. They have a super talented team with a huge amount of experience behind them, and have enough time for pre-production to iron out an amazing universe. Plus they don't have a bunch of rabid fans that will scrutinize every single feature comparing it to previous iterations. Why? Because there are no previous iterations of Destiny to compare the first to. We are still a bunch of rabid fans... but everything we see will be a new excitement to us. We will have little bias.
When does their game come out? So far I am doubtful of them.

Bungie employees work hard. And I mean really hard. The hours they pull are brutal -- similar to the hours I used to pull when I was working on a trial, but instead of only a few weeks or months, Bungie folks work like this ALL THE TIME. And it's not like this is super down-to-the-wire crunch time or anything -- at a minimum, we still have another year until the game launches. Put 300 genius video game designers in a building and see what happens when they devote their entire lives to a single project for years. Whether or not the game is "make or break," Bungie is treating it like it is. Or, more accurately, they are treating it like it is going to be more "make" than "break," and they want to ensure that every facet of the game meets and exceeds all expectations, and that should put your mind at ease. Whatever they come out with, I have no doubt that it's going to be awesome, and I mean that in the literal sense of the word. [Edited on 11.09.2012 11:45 AM PST]

If you think about it, all Bungie has right now to its name is Halo, and they don't even own it anymore. That's it. They have nothing to support them besides Destiny, which is why I think they're spending so much time on it. Who knows how long this game has been in development. I'd presume this has been in the works for a long time now. If Bungie doesn't prove themselves here, it will definitely hurt for them.
Posted by: OneDeadCaveMan Short answer: Yes. Long answer: After Reach? -blam!- yeah it's make or break.
I hate to say it, but this is my take on it too.
-
IF the game sucks, which it probably won't cause it's bungie damn it, then I'll probably stop coming to this site to be quite honest. I'd be REALLY pissed off if they drop the ball. Or I'd just stick around and just troll the hell out of the forums with a -blam!- load of alts out of rage.

Bungie is the reclaimer.
-
I do think it's make or break for Bungie. Will they remain makers of sweet games or will they make nice games. If you ask someone about Bungie they will probably answer with "they did make the Halo games, right?" Almost nobody except the Bungie fans will know of any other game Bungie has made. So it's make or break for Bungie in the means of will they be remembered by the succes of Halo or will they be remembered by their ability to make sweet games.
-
Like another member said recently, even if the title is Bieber Fever Unleashed, I will buy it if it has the bungie logo on it.
Posted by: BC1096 Like, does the future of their company rely so heavily on destiny or do they have some cushion?
Anything Bungie makes is astronomically awesome because they have astronomically awesome employees.
Posted by: xXIHAYD0IXx Well, it can hardly be more worse than Halo 4. I played it for an hour and was bored. Please, Bungie, make Destiny awesome
You got bored with Halo 4 after an HOUR? Hey everyone's got their opinion... but man...
-
Posted by: Foton I'd say they have a lot invested in it!
Agreed. But Bungie has grown up into a full fledged gaming company now, so I suspect they have made appropriate preparations to handle various posible levels of fiscal success.

Destiny =/= ET. I think we are good to hook. ~Delta
Posted by: Insane AlphaBeta I don't doubt there ability to make another great game, but this is there chance to prove to the entire industry that Halo wasn't a one hit wonder. So yes it is make or break for Bungie. imo.
This! Moreover i would like to add that if they break, i would prefer them to fail with a great game than a sh***y game (anyone remember Shenmue from Sega AM2?).
-
Absolutely not make or break. nothing else needs to be said.
-
I recall watching a Bungie Studios documentary many years ago explaining that Bungie was 'down in the dumps', not in the literal sense of being homeless but financially they were finding things difficult. After this problem Bungie Studios has probably been given a sense of foresight into how they can prevent such a problem in the future. The Halo franchise is incredible and the quality of each game is of high standards, as a result I doubt Destiny will 'flop'.
-
They will make it no matter what.
-
I'd say they have a lot invested in it!
-
I don't think it/they can do bad. Even if the game is crap, they will still have people eating every little bit of scrap info on the thing right out of their hands up until release. It will sell in such an abundance that even failure on a fun level would still lead to monetary gains and a heightened sense of self worth within the company. All of which would bring the cycle into effect all over again. You don't make or break Bungie...Bungie just breaks you.... And I want to add, from what I've seen, they don't seem to like beating the proverbial "dead horse." They gotta lotta love, and crap isn't on the agenda. [Edited on 11.07.2012 7:02 AM PST]

If Destiny fails.. which it won't, then they'll release GNOP V.2 for the app store at $.077. Everyone would buy it giving bungie the funds to.. TO TAKE OVER TEH WORLD!

Until I'm given some details, my faith diminishes by +2%/month.
Posted by: MasterSin
Posted by: TheRogueAngel I have faith that it will be epic. I mean, it's Bungie.
Fix'd.
Let's not forget that this IS Bungie after all. If Bungie plays their cards right, (which they will) one of two things could happen: 1:This will be the best MMO game in the history of gaming 2:This will be one of the best MMO games in the history of gaming
-
They have been working on it for years now. If destiny fails then I personally may surrender.
