Patton- "You know, Dick, if I had my way, I'd meet Rommel face to face; him in his tank and me in mine. We'd meet out there somewhere... salute each other, maybe drink a toast, then we'd button up and do battle. The winner would decide the outcome of the entire war" From the movie "Patton"
So between these 2 geniuses of armored warfare who do you think would come out on top?
Rommel is given one of the feared veteran Panzer divisions, and Patton the venerable but largely green American armored division.
Both of these great leaders/men were at the top of there game during World War 2 and had significant impacts on the shape of the war.
I would give this battle to Rommel, not just because of the panzers but because of his experience. and his genius tactics that shocked the world so many times in North Africa and gave him his title "The Desert Fox"
Posted by: Agent Peeps If they battle ten times I'm going to call it a draw down the middle. These two men respected the hell out of each other. Patton studied Rommel's tactics throughout the war and was an old Calvary officer. He was a student of war as Rommel was. To close to call. Although: "If you have defeated Rommel's plan, have you not defeated Rommel?"
didn't he believe in reincarnation? if so did he believe he was saladin/richard 1?

Rommel.

Rommel. Had it not been for Japan. Rommel could have taken Egypt without the intervention with the USA.
Posted by: Gruntzilla24 I'd have to say Rommel.
Do they have an infinite amount of supplies, not tanks and men, I mean shells and gases and stuff. If that's the case Romel, if not maybe Rommel, but Patton could win But all this needs now is MacArthur

Definitely. I wish more people were aware of him, but i doubt he will ever be taught in the classroom as much as he deserves it.
Posted by: Locke357 Rommel is one of those few high-profile German military men of which you can say conducted themselves honourably in WWII
Rommel because he had to deal with Hitler and the lack of strategic logic which came with him. I like Rommel.
-
Rommel but only if he doesn't have Hitler breathing down his neck.
-
It really is, i watch it every time its on for the most part. Theres a lot of great quotes in there.
Posted by: Locke357 Rommel was a better commander IMHO, but was subject unfortunately to all the failings of the third reich. Patton, on the other hand, had the entire weight of the US military-industrial complex behind him. btw Patton is a fantastic movie
