The Death of Master Chief *UPDATE!*

So I was reading several articles on the internet that said Steve Downes, the legendary voice behind the Chief, would like to see Chief die at the end of Halo 6. He wanted "a hero's death." So just out of pure fun, how do you, the wonderful Bungie community, think the Master Chief should die? Any idea, badass or funny, would be accepted. Thank you! And I would like to place my opinion. After reading several of the posts, I've come to a conclusion. Chief is with himself. The rest of his allies and Cortana are watching from orbit in a ship. Cortana stays behind because she is too unstable and could hinder Chief. So Chief goes and destroys the threat, blowing up the place as he does it. The people inside the ship believes he's dead. Humanity builds a monument to Chief. At the end of the game Cortana narrates how most people believe he's dead, but there has been rumors that marines have spotted a shadowy, armored figure lurking around and how entire Innie groups have disappeared w/o record of any UNSC intervention. Then there's a scene where Chief is in a small stealth ship along with a few other surviving Spartans. One Spartan tells him that he/she has intercepted a distress call coming from some planet and Chief says "Alright. Punch it." And they go into slipspace. This would be a satisfying ending to me, knowing that Chief is a living legend, but is silently watching over humanity. [Edited on 08.29.2012 6:09 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: SayamStitches The composer should give him and cortana a choice, return home and and live out your live's (knowing cortana hasn't long left) or be put back in cryo, but more of a matrix cryo. where are they both live, happy together with out time affecting cortana, The deal is if he was needed he could be awoken to fight again. As cortana said human nature is to go to war, chief's mind creates a war in this matrix style world. in which chief dies a death worthy of him. Camera pulls out to show the live sign's of chief alive and well. Choice then become's your alive or dead.
I'm pretty sure that the Composer is nothing more than a specific machine >_> I don't think it's an actual being or AI...

 • How is this, he survives the trilogy and becomes retired, but later dies of disease, or perhaps in some sort of accident. Heroes don't always die in some battle/blaze of glory. Maybe John should die of old age.

 •
Posted by: TheSpiderChief If the Chief isn't dead by the time Halo 6 finishes then I think the Chief will just disappear. Just vanish off the grid, never to be seen or heard of again.
Maybe after he blows something up, everyone thinks he's dead but he becomes a silent protector to humanity. Becoming a legend. Stories are made up like "Everyone thinks he's dead but I heard rumors that a group of marines were pinned by Innies, but out of nowhere a shadowy figure killed all of them. They thought it was the Chief." That'd be cool to end it like that.

 • If he doesn't die, I wouldn't know what would happen to Chief and any of the remaining Spartans. Even if they wanted to, ONI, the big -blam!-s that they are, probably wouldn't let them retire and try to fit in with society. They'd probably use them for their own agenda. But it would be nice to see Chief die peacefully, watching humanity rebuild and prosper because of him.

 •
Posted by: switch 104 sv
Posted by: HipiO7
Posted by: ajw34307 I've been saying what Downes is saying for ages. John, and by extention the Spartans themselves, has no place in the world he's fighting to protect. A quiet death of old age is not a satisfying fate for such a hero, his journey should end either with a heroic death or something symbolic like the end of Halo 3 where he goes into cryo.
When the Chief is about to die at the end of Halo 6, watch them use the Composer on him and turn him into an AI and then he can live happily ever after with Cortana if she doesn't go bat-blam!- crazy.
Then he will finally be able to insert his hard-drive into her usb port, just like they always wanted. Hopefully they use protection, wouldn't want to get a virus!
lol

 •
Posted by: MaxRealflugel The Cheif and Cortana should fulfill the roles of the Librarian and the Didact when the Halos were originally fired. Instead this time they use them to eliminate the ancient enemy. Chief dies in the process, Cortana survives and evolves with Forerunner help. CUT TO: Twelve months later, with the remaining Spartans paying tribute to John's sacrifice. Dr. Halsey arrives with a new recruit for the next Spartan program to be trained by the older Spartans and Cortana -- a six year old boy, and a living clone of a legend. End
Ugh. More cliche, more stupid, and look, Chief is there to be the main character AGAIN, and thus everybody's statements of keeping him around to milk the series is true.
did u not read my entire thread? i clearly stated at the end that i agree on the fact that maybe he shouldnt go out the traditional 'hero dies, saves the day' kinda ''cliche'' thing... i mearly stated that it could be the most climatic ending as long as 343i pulls it off right. i never said that to be a true halo fan you have to agree with me and Master Chief has to die... i never said that. what i am saying is we want the most epic and emotional ending possible for such a great game and for us to lose something as important as Master Chief would be a huge impact on us.
'We'? 'Us'? I hated John. Thel was a much better character. I hope John dies at the very start of Halo 4 and 'Vadam takes over.
I also said Halo 3's ending was perfect...
Agreed.
I dont think its 'narrow minded' of me to say that we halo fans just want the ending to be something to remember.
Again with the 'we'.

 •
Posted by: ninjakenzen I think it be nice and fitting if he just died randomly. Just collapsed on the battlefield or off-duty. But the fan outrage would be insane. Yeah, I might stick with that one then.
Chief suffers a stroke while filming. The game gets cancelled because no one else is suitable to replace him. Massive fan outrage.

 • Guys, ONI wouldnt even let him go. I mean he is the best fighter in the whole UNSC, you'll let him go if it was up to you huh ? Chief will die, the only question is how... My opinoin is that he has to do die somewhat like kurt. He should die like someone who sacraficed himself, bringing down the whole enemy with him. Perhaps, a super nova explosion caused by some tech ? jking lol

He didn't die that time did he? so no i am not being narrow minded, just open to the fact that, although the hero dying is cliche, the hero living is just as, if not moreso. yet the hero dying is almost always a better story. but whether John dies or not, I dont think its 'narrow minded' of me to say that we halo fans just want the ending to be something to remember.

 • thats just dumb.. i would be so p*%$^d if after playing years of halo it ended with the Chief sitting down and saying ''i am good''... what the "?>: ending would that be? We as true halo fans want the ending to be as epic as the story in its entirety has been so far. we dont want it to just 'end'... personally i thought halo 3's ending was perfect.. ''wake me.... when you need me....''sad in a way and thats what makes it so good. like any movie you watch its only good if it toys with your emotions... it cant just be happy the whole way through and it cant just be sad the whole way through... that would be boring.. in order to be drawn into anything deeply, your emotions must be involved.. the strongest emotion is by far sadness.. or losing something of which you are emotionally attached to... i.e. Master Chief.. noble 6's ending was kind of sad too.. when you play that final level in reaches wastes, watching dropships surround you, knowing its the end yet hoping maybe theres a chance Noble 6 might survive... not bad... if u think about it its not really even clear whether he dies... all it shows is him being surrounded by elites... i mean its pretty clear that he probably died, but it would be kinda sick if we saw him again... im not saying this is how it should end for the Chief... no no.. his will be much more epic... kinda like how bruce willis dies in the end of armaggeddon and saves ben afflec... then he says goodbye to his daughter one last time... i dont think any ending to any game or movie will ever be as good as that... i dont know how the halo universe could do something like this but i think i would bawl my eyes out like a sissy girl and cherish the game til the day i die... it HAS to end epic... it cant just end... in some ways i DO agree... i want the ending to be different than your typical 'hero sacrifices himself to save the day' but I really dont know what would be better... he cant just retire.... borring... then what? John grows a garden? And he cant just say ''whats next yo?'' cuz that wouldnt reaaly be an ending... and if it was i would use that f*:"{<> disc for firewood... like i said, halo 3's was perfect.. it wasnt what you expected and it left you thinking... attached.. although it is hard to accept the thought of the Master Chief dying, i have to agree and say that, so far, it would be the most epic ending.
