The Death of Master Chief *UPDATE!*

So I was reading several articles on the internet that said Steve Downes, the legendary voice behind the Chief, would like to see Chief die at the end of Halo 6. He wanted "a hero's death." So just out of pure fun, how do you, the wonderful Bungie community, think the Master Chief should die? Any idea, badass or funny, would be accepted. Thank you! And I would like to place my opinion. After reading several of the posts, I've come to a conclusion. Chief is with himself. The rest of his allies and Cortana are watching from orbit in a ship. Cortana stays behind because she is too unstable and could hinder Chief. So Chief goes and destroys the threat, blowing up the place as he does it. The people inside the ship believes he's dead. Humanity builds a monument to Chief. At the end of the game Cortana narrates how most people believe he's dead, but there has been rumors that marines have spotted a shadowy, armored figure lurking around and how entire Innie groups have disappeared w/o record of any UNSC intervention. Then there's a scene where Chief is in a small stealth ship along with a few other surviving Spartans. One Spartan tells him that he/she has intercepted a distress call coming from some planet and Chief says "Alright. Punch it." And they go into slipspace. This would be a satisfying ending to me, knowing that Chief is a living legend, but is silently watching over humanity. [Edited on 08.29.2012 6:09 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Gr3ml1nn After 343i is done, I would love it if they handed it off to another new company to do the next trilogy. That way, we have 9 games of varying concepts and stories. They could end it with a 10th game. A massive joint effort between Bungie, 343i, and the third group. Am I the only person that wants this?
That would take a while but i would definetly play it.

 • 343i has basically transformed chief from this silent machine that runs like clockwork into someone who could turn into Batman. Only batman should be batman, if 343i goes down this road I'm going to loose it... Actually I would not care at all. 343i's messed with canon too much anyways. Personally, I hope he gets sent back home and has a final say in the whole debacle about Halsey and Spartans. [Edited on 12.17.2012 12:24 AM PST]

 • I think that the Chief should become the next Diadact type character, taking over the mantle, or do as the OP said and dissapate into legend. However, seeing him die in battle would not be so bad. Especially if he is at peace. When has he ever been content with himself, knowing he has done his duty to mankind? I think that it is sort of sad that his mental state has deteriorated to the point where he will not stand back and look at his accomplishments and feats and be happy. Maybe, they could pull a stunt where you train the next Spartan, after Halo 6. Make that Halo 7, and not so much of a competitive game. Maybe only single player. When we know, for sure that this next Spartan is ready to protect everyone that John used to, I will be happy. But only then. By the way, everyone who says that is death is cliche, his dissapearance or what have you will be no matter what. By the time Halo 6 comes out, we will have imagined almost every single possibility for him. Just sayin.

 • I understand, but it has to be. The entire story of halo 4 revolves around an ancient conflict between the humans and the forerunner. The humans were on track to take the mantle of responsibility and the jealous didact tried to find a way to stop the humans. He succeeded, but ultimately the threat wasn't the humans, but the flood which forced the librarian to obliterate all life in the galaxy. After Chief defeats the didact there is nothing stopping humanity from finally taking the mantle. There will be nothing left. Nobody to fight. This trilogy will literally be the end of the halo saga as it is. If they are going to kill Chief then they need to exploit his tragic nature. The ultimate ending will be Chief shedding his nature of being a machine and becoming human. The only way to do that is through death.

 • dude if they did that nobody would play halo again master chief defines halo
Posted by: I Judge Bread I
Posted by: Mister Rollback I'm almost certain that the UNSC plans to replace John with the Spartan IV's. I feel that a decent ending would involve a mortally wounded Chief still fighting to the last to protect the very people that betrayed him, saving humanity, the covenant, and the entire galaxy in the process. The didact is the exact opposite of the chief with their only similarities being that they are both killing machines. They cancel each other out just like Clu and Flynn in Tron: Legacy
This.
• Want to know something amusing? No? Well I will tell you anyway. The "Happy" Ending: Master Chief dies as he lived. Amidst gunfire and explosions. He spent his whole life as a soldier, never knowing anything else. While this is a sad thought, it was merciful to let him die. He doesn't need to worry about the hardships of everyday life. Of living with people. He has some sort of legacy that is discussed during the final cutscene. The Tragic Ending: Chief survives. He cannot be killed by battle. Age must do its evil deed. The wars are over. He is forced to function with others, and attempt to become a member of society. Unfortunately, there is not a place for a giant super soldier in peacetime. He lives the rest of his long sad life alone with his memories of the friends he made during his career as a soldier. Society is thankful for what he did to save them, but he is ultimately an outcast until his death in his sleep many years later. As for Cortana's end? If she does come back, at least one of them needs to die. Both for "happy." One for tragic. Other possible endings that are not good ideas: -He lives happily ever after married to Cortana who is now a human because of the Composer and other stuff too. OR -They decide to continue his story after Halo 6. His age becomes frozen a la Sam Fisher. He fights the newest enemies and delivers the same one liners we know and love. I'm not saying the franchise should stop after Halo 6. But I am saying Master Chief's story should stop after Halo 6. [Edited on 12.07.2012 11:39 AM PST]

 • I want Halo 7, but whatever. John should die a very dramatic and heroic death. Not something dumb like an elite stabbing him with a sword, but maybe having to set off the Halo array. That would be fitting of the universe.

 • Things Chief has survived: human rebels the covenant armada Reach the flood exploding Halo exploding the Ark the splitting of Forward Unto Dawn entering atmosphere in free fall back hands from Hunters Gravemind Promethians Diadact a freaking point blank nuke explosion Now if THOSE things above hasn't killed him, what can they do to make his death badass? The problem is they can't!

 • His fight for humanity will not end until all that Chief holds dear is gone. Keyes, Cortana, Johnson... All of his close companions (with the exception of the Arbiter) have been eliminated, and he has seen each and every one perish. It's unlikely that he is still as mentally stable as he was in H:CE. He's going to accept death at some point, but I hope it'll be with some sort of sacrifice. Something that really gives a middle finger to both the Covenant and the Didact alike.

 • John is inside an enemy flagship, the last one remaining that with it's destruction the galaxy will be in peace. As he detonates it, he jumps into an airlock about to escape when the ship detonates. The UNSC looks on in awe. They declare him MIA (Spartans never die) and the galaxy is at peace. After credits seen shows Master Chief's airlock drifting towards a nearby planet. Nextscene shows him in a jungle like planet while Forerunners look on.

Kind of like the movie The Guardian, Kevin Costner becomes a legend and their are rumors he still alive saving men in the middle of the ocean. Epic movie by the way and you should all watch it. Furthermore what ever they do there better be epic music and intense emotions that will make me cry just like Halo 4.

 •
Posted by: GrandmasterNinja
Posted by: Metalignus I'd actually prefer him not to die.

Why can't chief, as the next step in humans evolution, remain an immortal guardian of humanity? Much like Didact was for the forerunners, only better.
