If you don't agree to donate organs, should you be able to receive?

I just saw this on the ad for Can of Worms. I think I agree that it's a bit hypocritical if people believe they should be eligible for organ transplants but aren't a donor. Flood, waddayathinkin?

 • I will likely donate my organs in the future becouse I feel, If people have no medical, religious or other good reason for not donating, they should think about signing up.

Release several posthumous rap albums, perhaps? That's what Biggie and Tupac did. [Edited on 08.08.2012 3:04 PM PDT]

 • So is there any real reason not to be an organ donor other than "I don't feel like it" or "medical professionals are going to kill me and harvest my organs like the bugs from Starship Troopers"? [Edited on 08.08.2012 2:49 PM PDT]

That'd solve this whole fuss.
Some religions don't allow their followers to donate organs.
Who does that?
Some very orthodox denominations of Judaism don't allow you to donate organs, as it is a requirement to have all of your organs to get into Heaven, should the messiah return. Most mainstream Jews allow for donation, only if there is no risk to your life or their benefit from the organ is "life-saving"

 • only thing i can think of is someone donates their organs and the person that received the organs donates, the next person to get the organs get second hand organs. Edit: i also am not an organ donor because why should i give u my organs after death, when most likely the person getting them Messed up their own organs, why should they get a second chance? I would gladly be a organ donor if i knew that the only people getting them are people that need them because of a life threatening situation that they did not cause by being obese to the point of needing a Heart transplant, or drinking to need a liver transplant, etc. [Edited on 08.08.2012 2:15 PM PDT]

Not donating organs is the equivalent of being a train driver, seeing somebody tied to the track and not braking. •
Posted by: BigBadBull94 It's a choice. If I choose not to donate my organs, that's fine. If someone chooses to donate their organs, and they happen to go to someone who isn't a donor, that's fine too. Because they CHOSE to donate them. It shouldn't matter if the person receiving organs is a donor or not.
While that is a good point, I also think if there is a person who is also an eligible match and needs the organ, but they are an organ donor and you are not, then they should take priority over you if you're over 18.

 • If you aren't an organ donor, you shouldn't be on lists if you require an organ. It seems pretty simple.

 • You don't even donate the organs unless you die from head trauma. So most people who choose to do that don't even get to have their organs donated after death.

 • I chose to be a donor beause I feel it is the right thing to do, even if that means my organs may go to someone that doesn't agree with that notion. My only exclusion are my gentials. [Edited on 08.08.2012 11:57 AM PDT]

 • In a way I agree with the OP. It would increase the number of organ donors, but then we would condemn people to death who need it. In short, I think everyone should legally be an organ donor, and then decide NOT to be one when they are older. That way, the issue of never getting around to being an organ donor never pops up.
