Just a little bit ago in Burritosenior's thread about meeting up in the Mideast/Midwest, someone suggested a BungieCon.
Obviously it was just a thought someone had but it's a good one.
Why not have a specific event JUST for Bungie? Maybe 343i and Bungie?
I've noticed that events like ComicCon and PAX are selling out quicker than you can click on the page, and the sad fact is there are just too many people wanting to attend. So why not have an event with a little closer group?
Bungie.Net has always been a bit of a family atmosphere, at least that what Bungie it seems has tried to set up, so why not have an event SPECIFICALLY for Bungie.net members?
Does this limit the crowd? Sure. But it also would help make this community into just that, a community, and not just a random barrel of gamers.
Still. There are well over 100,000 users on this sight. Active ones.
Now imagine a ticket for a three day pass costing $50.
if ONLY 100,000 attended, that'd be $5,000,000 in Bungies pocket alone.
Obviously there would be costs. Say even $3,000,000 worth. But that still $2,000,000 for Bungie. That 2 million dollars into a new IP, or the next trilogy. Or into more employees. or into new equipment.
We, as a community, could single handedly make Bungie one of the best funded Game developers in the business, and thus, help them make better games.
I realize this is all a bit of a stretch, getting everything right, setting everything up. This even takes time away from Bungie doing what they do best; making games. But it would help build a the oh so solid fan base into an even stronger, more connected fan base.
What say you, Bungie community?

I would certainly try to attend for sure!

So they ain't gettin' anywhere near 100,000. Maybe... like... bout tree fiddy.

I think it would be cool too if Bungie did this to do an "Aerospace" thing where they show indie dev games they are supporting and you can make donations to charities Bungie supports.
-
BungieCon eh? I would totally attend that! I'll sign up for the boxing booth with Jerome.
-
there are 100,000 users? Doesn't look that way.
-
What if Bungie decided to hold the event? In the studio :O
-
Posted by: DTA MoonDawg If something like this ever happened, you better believe I would buy my ticket in a heartbeat.
This... For PAX and E3 I'd like to go but I don't really try. But if this happen I'd def make an effort to go.
-
That would be the coolest thing ever, though, probably never going to happen... I'll just keep dreaming about the idea of it. :') lol
Posted by: American Recoil What if Bungie decided to hold the event? In the studio :O
I have a feeling they wouldn't trust all of us with the secrets of the studio... BUT, maybe if we got rid of the people they didn't trust..... Na nevermind.
-
If this actually happened and was feasible for me (ie, relatively close to my region-- pacific northwest-- and not too pricey), -blam!- yeah I would be all of the down.
-
You better believe I would try to make an effort to go. Sadly though this sounds like a dream.
-
For those of you doubting this because of Bungie's size or current projects as a developer, you need to breathe some more air, because I give you: MineCon Minecraft is an indie game whose developers consist of a small team (10+ people), and they have already had their own convention. Bungie can have one. Bungie/Microsoft/343i certainly have enough content for one. [Edited on 08.07.2012 1:29 AM PDT]
Posted by: jyrine Mideast
Hehehe Mideast is technically the Middle Eastern, and that's a pretty far trip. Anyways, I live in Puerto Rico even though I study in Ohio. If Bungiecon was made during college semesters, I would probably think about it. [Edited on 08.07.2012 1:41 AM PDT]

I don't think you understand how many people 100,000 is. No way even a quarter of that many people would show up. my whole town only has 156,000 people.
-
Isn't that the same idea as PAX?
-
Loving this idea so far. Surprised it hasn't actually happened yet. Anyways, just to get my say in this, what if they had a members only area, where say, you had to have been an active member of the community for say a year or two. For people who were dedicated to the community and not just the game.
-
I'd go. :)
-
Who's going to pay for it?
Posted by: ARBITOR 5
The initial payments silly billy, unless this entire extravaganza is going to be done in IOU.
-
It's a great idea, but would seem unecessary to Bungie. Theoretically, when do you think they'd do it?
-
Posted by: Duck duck DEATH
Posted by: ARBITOR 5
The initial payments silly billy, unless this entire extravaganza is going to be done in IOU.
Yeah, I think he still meant Bungie, and that they would pocket some cash at the end.
-
Ah. How bold.
-
I'm all for BungieCon. I'd go every year.
-
If that ever happened, I would most certainly go see it.
