Can you get banned through messaging?

During the glory days of Optimatch I would PM people from time to time just to simply put them in their place. It was actually quite fun. I could understand a ban if someone was actually harassing a person via PM. I wouldn't think the moderation team would care if you pm'd something that you wouldn't want to post in the mains.
