Sometimes I wish MLG hadn't used Forge

I just finished watching a single MLG King of the Hill match on Battle Canyon, and it honestly felt awesome. It's so nostalgic to see players coming back to that particular map that has always been with us since the beginning. Everything was so cheerful, everyone seemed to be having fun, and the map had life in it, it had color, it had soul. It was beautiful. But then, the video was over and I found myself upon the endless pile of gameplays, commentaries and montages done over gray, dull maps all over Forge World. Sometimes I hate the fact that competitive players want pure symmetrical maps in order to play. Sometimes I wish there had been MLG matches on Reflection, Anchor 9 or even Uplink (if anyone remembers that, map, which in my opinion was great). Sometimes, I wish the so called "skill" was agreed by everyone to actually be to play on Default maps, and not boring forge variants.

 •
Posted by: MR E0S Just because some noob can occasionaly walk into a room and get a few kills by doing a pray and spray ...suddenly the game is casual... Get over yourselves No really, it's obvious is it not.? The killstreaks alone, should be more than enough evidence to show you how much CoD loves catering to the competitive players. Did any of you ever see how much those competitives -blam!-ed when they added death streaks to the game? Which brings me to another point of how retarded competitive players are. It's perfectly OK to dish out AC-130's that can do triple the damage that was required to even obtain it... But god forbid if you help out the little guy every once in a while to make it a truley interesting match that could even be considered a competitive matchup. If I was to sit idly by and let competitives have their way with Halo..... it wouldn't be long before we had Killstreaks plaguing this game as well.
Because that's why competitive CoD doesn't use killstreaks.

 • You can forge in any color you want, as long as it's gray.
Posted by: meagsIZbeast It would be even better if forge came in another color than grey.
• Soo If Bungie had implanted a system where you could change the skin of an object, would Forge be perfect? So lets say, they made is so you change the skin of all the items in the wall category to be entirely grass, or entire dirt, or entirely stone, or entirely sandstone, and in the buildings category, you could change the textures of the buildings to be made out of sandstone, or have have a snow texture/frost effect on it to make it look cold. Would that make Forge "flawless"? [Edited on 05.06.2012 10:47 AM PDT]

 • No it wouldn't make forge flawless unless those skins reduced the number of textures on an object, thus simplifying the rendering engine and reducing framerate issues. Even so, Forge would still lack desirable features such as grouping, cloning, and undo-ing an action--all of which are incorporated in nearly every other level designer these days.

 • It's a mixed bag. Some maps are just NOT ON when it comes to being fair for both sides. Asymmetrical maps can be fair with the right weapon and player spawn points, but that requires forge tweaking almost every time. Can you imagine Sword Base MLG? I shudder. But I also agree that Forge maps only present an equally horrible problem: Boring look, boring style, limited variations in map types. In short, it gets old VERY fast. But if Bungie/343 knew anything about how to make a map themselves this wouldn't have been a problem, now would it? Zealot (after forge tweaks whilst rolling my eyes) is pretty much the only really good default map in Reach. A couple of half-decent ones have come out in DLC.

Didn't MLG events spin around the brand new Halo games? There could be MLG Solitary or MLG FFA on High Noon. Hell, there could be MLG FFA on virtually any default or DLC map.

 • yeah, ffa can be extended to more maps, but even then most of Reach's default maps are poop for FFA due to their layouts. But I could tolerate more that way if AA's were gone and all.
