Sometimes I wish MLG hadn't used Forge

I just finished watching a single MLG King of the Hill match on Battle Canyon, and it honestly felt awesome. It's so nostalgic to see players coming back to that particular map that has always been with us since the beginning. Everything was so cheerful, everyone seemed to be having fun, and the map had life in it, it had color, it had soul. It was beautiful. But then, the video was over and I found myself upon the endless pile of gameplays, commentaries and montages done over gray, dull maps all over Forge World. Sometimes I hate the fact that competitive players want pure symmetrical maps in order to play. Sometimes I wish there had been MLG matches on Reflection, Anchor 9 or even Uplink (if anyone remembers that, map, which in my opinion was great). Sometimes, I wish the so called "skill" was agreed by everyone to actually be to play on Default maps, and not boring forge variants.

  • Did you ever notice how Social is and was basically the same thing as the playlist that are now considered competitive under Reach? As if changing the title of it means anything... But apparently your all so deluded by simple things like that, that you actually beleive changing the label of those playlist from social to competitive does mean something.. What's the difference between Social BTB on Halo 3 and Competitive BTB on Halo Reach? (besides the obvious differences of maps, etc) NOT A DAMN THING! And if there is a difference.. then you're basically saying that I can just go around slapping Competitive on a playlist.. And that immidiately means everything under it is competitive...right?(Vice Versa for Casual) [Edited on 05.06.2012 2:58 AM PDT]

  • You apparently don't get it. Just because you changed the Label from Social to Competitive. Doesn't mean -blam!-! And the only part you need to concern yourself with is that. Regardless of the label. You competitive types would still raid the "Social" area just to pad your stats. And then whine and cry and plead for a quit ban to be made because to many people quit on you. [Edited on 05.06.2012 2:55 AM PDT]

'I don't like X, X needs fixing, therefore X is the competitive community's fault!'

  • the playlists under competitive in reach, are social. Sorry if there is a misunderstanding there. When I say competitive, I actually mean competitive. Not the playlists label in reach.

  • Why do you need more than 1 playlist for ranked? [Edited on 05.06.2012 3:00 AM PDT]

  • Being forced to play a random map/gametype.. Would you consider that a competitive thing or a casual element?

  • Since the randomness that is inherent in MM is competitive in nature, I don't see why you all couldn't be satisfied with one massive playlist with a bunch of random -blam!- in it. Oh you don't think so. Why am I forced to play random -blam!-?....so that the likely hood of someone boosting their stats on a single familiar map is lessened and thus that person would be better to compare stats against. I could give a -blam!- about comparing stats. Uhh sorry.. but MM is ENTIRELY DEDICATED TO COMPETITIVE! regardless of what label is on the playlist. IF the playlist said social, but I'm being forced to fight through a vote, I'm being forced to play something I don't want to play. That is competitive.. not casual. • niche playlists. Some people prefer swat, snipers, slayer, MLG, doubles, etc... Just like in social you would prefer to play slayer, action sack, grifball, living dead, etc... There are always those who like the competitive aspect of certain playlists, and those who prefer the casual aspects. Thats why a ranked/social playlist should exist.

  • So your saying.... Forcing people to fight through a vote... in which people who have full teams with them win the vote Teams = Competitive Solo = Casual Who gets -blam!- over on the vote in the pre-game lobby? THE CASUAL! Until we're actually given a server browser of some kind to support what could be called "Custom matchmaking" The entirety of matchmaking is catered to competitives. Which is why when your so called casual elements were introduced and being forced upon you...things turned to -blam!-. [Edited on 05.06.2012 3:10 AM PDT]

  • [quote][b]Posted by:[/b] MR E0S So you're done? Usually when people start becoming grammar queens... [/quote] I dont follow your logic on some of these issues. I think we should actually talk about our opinions on the issue. What is your GT? Ill send you a party invite later when I get off of work, around 8pm CST, maybe a little later. I just want a better idea of where your coming from, and you could explain what your trying to say a little better.

I have been in lobbies with IRL friends, and even though we were a full party, winning was our last concern. Just because the vote doesnt always go your way, doesnt mean its casual or competitive.

  • also EOS if i search alone and match up against some dude and his 3 guests and they vote for elite slayer on pinnacle and i cant stop them, it suddenly means that they're competitive and elite slayer is also competitive? no, it means that you're an idiot.

  • The only thing you need to understand from all this... This is bull-blam!-; "You have to design a game for competitives in order to cater to casuals" It's the furthest thing from the truth. Because if you did that, you'd end up with Counter Strike. Whereas on the other hand. If you designed the game for casuals first.... You end up with Halo:CE and so on...until you start catering more and more to competitives which in turns makes you design the -blam!-iest p2p matchmaking service in history.

  • Uhmmm that one dude brought 3 guests online with him.... and you searching solo. I can't say for certain, but I would say that his level of competitiveness is actually more than your's at that very moment. Maybe not in relation to some die hard MLG team...but still. He brought a full team online with him... that speaks for something. [Edited on 05.06.2012 3:16 AM PDT]
