Pi Studios are the team responsible for bringing the map editor to Halo 2 on Windows Vista, and they wanted to share their progress and ideas, with you, our gentle reader. It's Day 2 of the week that KP calls Vistravaganza.

why the hell did they not put a halo 2 map editor in the xbox game similar to far cry even if the maps could only be used for custom games.
-
I recommend everyone excited about Vista map making to visit http://www.h2vista.net/ to prepare for Halo 2 Vista's release and http://ghost.halomaps.org/ to become familiar with Bungie's HEK before attempting to create maps for Halo 2 Vista.

Finally we can correctly structure bsp w007

Ok here is what i have got to say: 1) This is for Halo 2 so stop asking for Halo 3 or about the Mapmaking for Halo 3. 2) This is for PC there will be no need to use your xbox to help make maps and i'm sure you can't use the tools to make the maps for the xbox Halo 2, unless you make a third party program that converts it to the xbox format but even for halo CE thats a rare program. 3) you should still be able to make maps with gmax, which is free and 3dsmax if you want to pay. who knows they may make it so you could make maps in meya. 4) I don't mind them making HEK easyer to use but i just hope they don't disable most things on it. I still want to make custom bipeds, vehicles, scenary, etc, etc.

must... give in... microsoft... advertising scheme... big money... Did you hear something? Sounds cool, I always loved modding for fun (maps, golden warthogs, etc.)
-
Oh, I just remembered that lecture some of the Halo 2 dev team gave about toolsets. I cant remember which one it was, it's been a long time, but they showed a lot of slides with screens of their tools and all with black censor bars over everything almost humerously. Would it be safe to assume that we will get a high level of functionality of the tools with this release? Such as being able to view compiled model data in real time rendering and so forth in guerilla?

If I make a map on Microsoft Paint, would you publish it? :D:DD:D:D:D:D
Posted by: perfecsaiyan Sweet! I really hope this will explode like the UT2k4 community. Modding games has always been fun and this will make Halo 2 even better. Hope H3 has a mapmaker... 3 words... Vehicle Stunt Track
heck yes! :) there were a few really good vehicle stunt tracks for halo: Custom Edition, and they were really fun. with the ease and power of the new map making tools (along with new physics) stunt tracks will be so much more fun :). I, personally, am going to save like freaking crazy to get a good Vista computer (the one i'm using now is, obviously, XP, and its crappy. the only good thing is the 150 gig hard drive) anybody know the price range of a good Vista comp that'll run Halo 2 excellently (no framerate problems or anything, with exception of lag. lag is inevitable). Also, i would want the comp to have lots of room to push the map making tools to their limits without 300 hour loading times and crashing. if it helps u to come up with a price, i'm planning on building a custom one. those seem to be cheaper (and much better) than those company brand pre-built ones.
-
i dont understand any of this as i have halo and halo 2 for xbox so none of this makes sense to me like h2v what the hell is h2v. So could someone explain excatly what Halo 2 Vista: Mapmaking is, how you get it and what it does. If someone kindly explains this to me i will be gratefull well with what ive gatherd its something to do with useing your computor.
Posted by: Spartan9807 If only they'd release it. What the heck are they waiting for?
Umm they need to finish it.

I agree with some of the first posts here. A screenshot would be great.

One of the many reasons why I'm getting Vista.
Posted by: Halomaster1232 For anyone who mods Halo 2, I am hoping this will also be able to edit stuff exactly like dothalo, not just be able to transfer stuff across maps. That is what Insolence is used for (except that it doesn't work for Relic and Gemini.) And i'm also pretty sure that they have a tool for Halo 2 to move stuff around on the map (I know that you can change spawn points hehe.)
We are getting Bungie's tools, but made a little more user friendly. Players can make stuff from scratch. It's not like current Halo 2 modding at all, where you grab an existing BSP or piece of scenery and place spawn points. You will even be able to make new weapons, vehicles, bipeds, skies, etc.
-
so not for Xbox right?
-
Can you share maps on Xbox Live or even play these on the Xbox 360 or is this all for PC.
This is only for Vista (a new OS) that is coming out late this year or next year. I am not sure.

If i remember correctly those were the exact tools used to create maps in Halo CE (Custom Edition). The name is not to be confused with Halo: Combat Evolved. So if you have ever created a map in Halo CE then I am guessing all this will be is basically Halo 2 CE, but hopefully a little more user friendly. The tools were very complicated in Halo CE.
Posted by: another mammoth Prometheus is going to own bungie's HEK, as xbox7887 said. Every awesome H2 modder knows that.
If only they'd release it. What the heck are they waiting for?
