ODST Invasion Development Thread

  • The bomb doesn't reset if it falls out of bounds and you can't separate the arm time from the disarm time.

  • P1 Territories P2 Territories (cause Assault is glitched) P3 Core retrieval That's about all I got. A list of aesthetics that I want to include are: -Lightbridges -Deathpits -Covenant PowerCore -Pelican -Covie Watch Tower <3 -Weapon Drop Pods Not sure if Pistons will still make the cut. But ya there'll a mix of indoor and outdoor combat. Just need to figure out what structure will best support that.

  • I think this map should have a really good balance between indoor and outdoor combat. The indoor areas shouldn't be campable like boneyard, but still give enough space for players on foot. Have you planned any objectives or weapon/vehicles yet? [Edited on 01.31.2012 2:05 PM PST]

Pioneer's undergone an overhaul and I'm halfway done with it. Will work on that too when the Forerunner Invasion map is done. I mainly redid the base and the side structures.

I save about 2-3 walls by incorporating brace larges. No worries though. I have enough budget for them. I should have done this design on Jackal Creek and Pioneer. It looks really cool.

[/quote] Well I just built a concept on the quarry and it's just much too small for this particular map. The ODST map would work better but this one needs a wider initial battle field. So it's between Alaska and the Canyon. I can section the canyon off well enough so that it doesn't feel like Hemorrhage. It's just a matter of what structures we want to include and what sort of combat we're looking at. Either way the aesthetics are phenomenal. I don't know how I do it but I've got the CE feeling packed.

I didn't necessarily make the walls cheaper budget-wise. I just made them cheaper wall-wise, meaning I use less walls to make a...well, giant-ass Sentinel Wall.

Light bridges just require a death pit, which can be built easily. Pistons, however, require a large drop down, which I can only build on alaska or the quarry. I might move the map to the canyon, and it would require a huge elevation change for me to include pistons in a canyon design. I'll keep trying. I gotta run everything by my co-forger though and he barely gets on. I think he'll approve of anything I build though. [Edited on 01.31.2012 9:36 AM PST]

All we need from them is a reduction of the max party size in Invasion so I and other Invasion forgers could hopefully add a few new maps to Invasion.

  • Goat, in reference to you wanting large spaces for the vehicles, might I suggest looking up some of the cityscape maps built around Alaska? I seem to remember a couple of them worked exceedingly well. Their design made the area feel like entirely new spaces, and yet still gave enough space to the player by extending the surface of Alaska. I'll see if I can root them out.   • Suspended, not cancelled. The latter would imply that I gave up, which isn't true. I've just simply put it aside so that I can work on projects that would be finished in a shorter time frame. 3 months is too long to work on one map. I could have built 2 simpler Invasion maps in that time. Now onto the [b]UPDATE:[/b] Found a way to reduce wall usage on the Sentinel Wall I was planning on including in the map, so I might be able to use my original indoor concept after all. Now I just need to figure out where I'm putting the map. I need an interesting space for vehicle combat. Otherwise I might just build indoor vehicle combat and set the map as an extension of the Quarry. It's that, Alaska, or the Canyon, the latter of which is where I've built the wall draft. Hmm...
