• I'm not sure if this has been said yet or not, I really don't have the time to read all of the posts, but the forerunner structure in front of the Chief, is it the Arc? Some friends and I think that what Guilty Spark was talking about when he talked about the Arc wasn't the Covenant ship that Truth took, but was in fact Earth itself. Furthermore, that humans are in fact the remnants of the Forerunners, forced to start anew after the Halo rings were originally activated. I know you probably won't answer this question, it does delve deep inside the story line of Halo 3, but I just wanted to throw that little theory out there.

 • Conform...
"Its Obvious the new AR has differences..... The Barrell From what i can tell from military specs is ATLEAST 4 (four) to 6 (six) inch extension.( a 1 inch extension would make no sense and serve no purpose) An Extension to a Barrell usually has 2 reasons..... 1- it allows the bullet to spin longer before its released from the Barrell(if its a "RIFLED" Barrell and not "HONED) giving the Bullet a much Faster spin in turn giving it a much strated and more accurate Line of Flight. and 2- To help Bullet Drop, The Bullets should fire alitttle further, but not have as much drop. Longer Barrells usually mean better accuracy.... i mean the spread on a sawed off 4 inch shotgun is not going to be anywhere near as accurate as the spread on an 18 inch long shotgun... this is the best i can explain.
Yea the BR has a slightly longer barrel, thats pretty much what I said. But believe me I have done some serious comparisons and the barrel is no were near 4-6 inches. Atleast thats not represented in the pictures. "a 1 inch extension would make no sense and serve no purpose" This is exactly my point and the reason I thought it was still pretty much the same gun. Anyway the gun cant be too accurate because it doesnt have a scope. Its pretty much gotta be a fully auto AR with possibly slightly more accuracy.

 •
Posted by: Caboose987 Ok, played Halo: Combat Evolved. The Assault Rifle in the trailer is just about completely identical to the original, what's the deal ? I really think you should be extremely careful on choices for weapons for the new Halo. Think about it, the first Halo didn't have live, but it had System Link, but no one used it because the weapons didn't fit a multi-player battle. Halo 2 was so popular and worked great because it had different types of weapons, e.g. SMG is basically an AR and the Battle Rifle was a bit of a tactical weapon. What would a Halo Team Slayer be like if the main weapon was an AR ? It would feel so weird and un-Haloish. Here's an idea, get 4 players to play Halo: Combat Evolved and see how much the Multi-player sucked, it wasn't rubbish, but it wasn't good, it was weird and just...I don't know how to explain it but it was really weird. Then play Halo 2 on a multi player...feel the difference and the opportunities that the weapon choice brings. Yes there are a few extra weapons in Halo 2, but the difference between the weapons gives you more choice and more of a battle. Feel the change the Halo 2 weapons bring about. So, to the point, think extremely carefully about weapons for Halo 2, in my opinion i absoloutely hated the AR in Halo. Here you are thinking about the future of Halo, even though this is the last installation, think about it, most people have Halo 2 for the multi-player, because the Campaign became boring after completing it a few times. If there were rubbish weapons in Halo 3, there won't be much Halo 3 being bought or used, and i have a feeling a lot of people would buy the game, finish the story and go back to Halo 2 on Live. Please think carefully on this, it's quite a concern really.
Excuse the name calling.... but you my friend, are an idiot. "I really think you should be extremely careful on choices for weapons for the new Halo. Think about it, the first Halo didn't have live, but it had System Link, but no one used it because the weapons didn't fit a multi-player battle." Apparently you didnt play very much H:CE or have very much knowledge of it because it is the game that spawned MILLIONS of lan partys. Its the game that brought competitive gaming to a new level. I cant believe you will sit here and act like the multiplayer in Halo:CE was mediocre or average because it simply was much better than that. "Here's an idea, get 4 players to play Halo: Combat Evolved and see how much the Multi-player sucked, it wasn't rubbish, but it wasn't good, it was weird and just...I don't know how to explain it but it was really weird. Then play Halo 2 on a multi player...feel the difference and the opportunities that the weapon choice brings. Yes there are a few extra weapons in Halo 2, but the difference between the weapons gives you more choice and more of a battle. Feel the change the Halo 2 weapons bring about." As for this little statement... Just please excuse Halo:CE for having weapons with a purpose. With your theory more variety is better (and A LOT of people think this way), however let me ask you this... Why is Halo so much better than other FPS? Why does it sell more copies? Why is it the game professionals haven chosen to play for years? Why does it have a factor that keeps you playing for over a year from launch? The answer to all these questions is that its NOT a generic FPS. It has 10 or so PURPOSEFUL weapons. Every weapon has a time, a place, and a purpose. With Halo 2 bungie lessened that to an extreme degree.... especially when it comes to vehicles. The game has become much more concerned with what looks 'cool' and can be implemented. Now of course the game also stands out because of its epic storyline (which many think is not a good one) and its great user interface. However, it still all comes back to these core gameplay ideas. If you want to have 50 weapons, be able to hold 10 at a time, have 35 different vehilces then you are playing the wrong FPS. Other developers have already proven that more isnt always better. Heres an old nintendo statement for you "quality over quantity." [Edited on 5/15/2006]

 • Well, from what i hear there is supposed to be 4 player co-op in this halo...probably due to the fact that the Covenant are taking over Earth and all...
Posted by: RAMMONEY360 If that area in the trailer is the remants of New Mobasa why are there trees growing? Are there going to be new vehicles? Will there be a map editor? 32 multi player? Also after Halo 3 will there ever be another Halo or Halo Based Game made by bungie in the next several years?
You have done a piss poor job of preventing it in the first place, stopping it period, or even lessining it. I will blatantly say that if I were in charge of it, it would have been stopped months ago. 2) Q."Why is the Assault Rifle in there? A. Who says it's the standard Assault Rifle? Doesn't look identical to me…" This is the worst news since the release of the trailer. And actually I have studied this for several hours and concluded that the gun was identical to the assault rifle for Halo:CE except that the barrel was slightly longer (maybe an inch). Anyway IF this gun is a fully automatic rifle that has the range of a BR (which im not sure what else it could be), then congrats bungie, you have already made H3 another average FPS. 3) That was a pretty good update...it answered a lot of questions. • I'm sure this has been discussed already, but I believe the Covenant and Humans are working together and have been for sometime. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems like thats the answer given the clues in the trailer as well as what has been said by Bungie. The sign with the grunt on it. The excavation team is made up of covenant ships. The banshee pilots look interesting as well. These are all clues. Maybe they aren't working together, but the covenant are certainly in control of the area. It seems they have accidentally activated the device since they are in such close proximity of what is assumed a destructive force. I am guessing that the environment looks the way it is because the ship that 117 was on reappeared inside the Earth's atmosphere. Does anybody know what the structure is that detonates? PM me if you know, thanks!
Posted by: Gamefan360
Lots others on the rise as well... i Have a 360 and Downloaded Losst PLanet DEmo. I am "NOT" a 3rd person shooter fan, but let me tell you as crapppy and unfinished as this DEMO is, it was alot of fun. Just pure fun. And theres others too.... just too many to list. I actually Halo 3 will have alot of competition if Bungie descides to make a Second Halo 2. "I Miss The "Feel"- Halo: Combat Evolved Had. In Halo 2, I felt as if a was "Moving" around the environments... in Halo:Combat Evolved... i "Felt" as if I was actually there not just "moving" around the environments, but as if i was part of it.

 • Another thing, DO NOT bring in sprinting. Well it's your game, do as you wish, but i think you'd like the game to be good looking and still feel like Halo. You want the fans to enjoy Halo. Anyway, sprinting wouldn't be a good idea, it would bring about many flaws and all the modifiers could mod the sprinting to run like hell, it would be crazy. I think you'll want Halo 3 to feel like Halo 2 did, and for it to be as succesful, all Halo 3 needs is a brush up, some new weapons, keep some old succesful ones (BR and Carbine for example) maybe some new maps as well, but you could keep some maps from Halo and Halo 2, e.g Sidewinder, Zanzibar and Headlong. Also i read somewhere that Zanzibar is to be in Halo 3, but a bit destroyed, quite barren, the sky will be red and it would basically be a destroyed power station. How the hell would that fit a battlefiled ? Zanzibar has to be one of the favourite and most often used maps, i suggest you keep it. Headlong, I used to hate it, played it a few times and I love it, even though we only ever have around 8 - 10 players using system link, but it's still good fun. Coagulation, KEEP IT! It's probably the favourite map of all, it's great for CTF and Team Slayers, the open field makes room for vehicles, whereas the cliffs and shadow spots make great places for snipers. The caves and rocks/hills make good cover and help you get across the map in a way. Sidewinder, this would be awesome for enhanced Halo. The map is icy and snowy, quite good looking. It's an orignal Halo map with 2 bases, could be good for CTF and Assault. The ice makes a hard getaway with the flag, as well as the map having cliffs for snipers and easy access to the base means the flag could be stolen easily but the defenders could get there easily too. Overall, keep old stuff and add extras, would be a good idea. It keeps that Halo 2 feel in it, Halo 2 was amazing, especially the multi-player, i don't think change would be all to great. Keep what is there and add some extras.

 •
Posted by: ChiloPilo
Posted by: Aktins_Diet Dear Bungie, Bungie’s Next game (halo 3) is drawing closer to completion, and I am concerned about a few things that might not go in it, as in being left out, and things that should be changed. Note: its your game, you can do what ever you please, but I am just speaking from a fans perspective, and I think you might find a lot of people agree with me. Let me state this now that this post is not negative like last week at all. There were a lot of great achievements in Halo 2. One such thing is the UI. The UI in halo 2 was the best I have ever seen in any game. It was extremely stylish, classic, simple, and easy for even the most novas of players. The reason it was simple was because there was no “clutter.” There is an old saying, to many cooks can spoil the broth. Well I think Bungie did an excellent job on the UI by not going over board. Bungie also had tips in there Halo 2 UI as part of a way to inform the players, but keep them busy while they wait for games. If I am correct on this, Bungie is credited for doing this in a first person shooter. (for such a detailed and myriad amount of tips in pre-game lobbies.) It also numerated the steps that the system was in, keeping us informed step by step, and thus giving the player more power and knowledge of what is going on. I think personally the Tips thing, though small, was clever, as well as the 1,2,3,4 steps. What also was clever was having boxes where players where shown, which in halo, showed Xbox controllers. It also showed there “logo” which is each players own identity. This was also very clever, and better then most games. The game setup was great to. My only complaint was that I felt like I did not have enough control on the game setting, like if I wanted were pistols on the map would spawn, I choose human pistol, and where BR’s spawn, I choose carbine. (I guess this is a feature, but I wish it was integrated.) There was 2 other things I did not like about the UI, and that was one, I wish there was a button (like the black button) where I could select someone to boot or give party leader. In halo 2, you have to hit Y, and then go all the way down to do so. It is just a convenient option. The last one is the friends and clan list itself. Granted, no other game has such a user friendly and eye appealing UI for this then Bungie, but I wish I had more control over it. I wish I could choose certain spots to be filled in with my friends. So for example, let’s say I have Steve, Frankie, bob, and Sketch on my friends list. Frankie is all the way down on the bottom, but I want him on top. Sketch is in the middle. But I want him bellow Steve, and bob is currently on top. If I could change this, it would be great, and give’s the player more control. This is so nice when there offline to. (for messaging them.) Also, I hate it when I first logon, and it says I have a message, but my friend is off, so I have to scroll down the list to get the message. It would be more convenient if messages were on top like friend requests. I also saw one of your early builds, where you could send files to one another. I think this would be such a great asset in a game. It would make the next project so much more then just as a game, but more as a social gathering. (Like halo 2 game rooms have become.) Best of all, its P2P, so its no cost to Bungie. (Though The bugs could get annoying to fix.) Overall, I think the UI system is a marvelous achievement of Bungie, and is defiantly the standard bar that gaming companies have to meet, which all have failed in this area. (Darn it!) Props to The UI Team, and I hope such a focus will be made to the next project as well. What also should be focused on desperately is the network of the next project. What really brought halo 2’s destruction of being a bigger success then it already is in my opinion, is the stand-bys, bridging, and modding. Let’s start with what Halo 2 runs on for a network. Halo 2 operates by sending data to Bungie servers, and Xbox live servers once in a while, especially when looking for players or when a team wins. How do we play games then? Simple, Halo 2 runs on a P2P network, which is where one Xbox 360, will have the host, and sends all the data outward, and basically acts like its own server. It cost Bungie no bandwidth, and Bungie does not have to worry about tons of servers to cover and pay for. The down side to this, is that the person with host, has a Huge advantage over his players. For example, a person with host can kill anyone with 8 needles (one explosion) with the needier. But, it can take several explosions with people with non host. Lunging, lag, and the range of grenades all are impacted from the host. It can also be manipulated, to boot people, lag them, or force host on your own team, giving you the advantage, even though you may have DSL, and the other team has t1. Please Bungie, for the love of god, don’t set your next project as a P2P, except for custom games. Instead, invest in the servers. It will boost the life of the game for a long time. A great way to rid stand-by folks is to do something very similar to Far Cry. It detects if a person is having a faulty connection, and boots them if it gets bad. If people have ISP connections that are that bad, they need a new ISP, because they are hurting everyone’s fun factor. Besides, how many people have that problem anyways? Speaking of fun factor, This may be off the topic, but one thing that can make a game playable for ever is the ability to create/customize stuff. Gamers are like noob game designers. All they want to do is make there own stuff and play it, and have fun. Look at Far Cry. Its simple editor is extremely cool to use, and even though it is limited on what you can put down, players have learned to be creative around it. If Bungie was to Create a Map editor for there new game, it would be a Big hit. Best of all, you could do it Far Cry style, make the players Share the map P2P. Again, no extra cost, and you continue the fun factor, and making it a even better game. Plus you get the kicks of seeing some really creative maps that your fans made from your creation. The lunging system in halo 2 was…. Frustrating; granted, it is one of the most sophisticated melee systems of any video game. For example, if one has the Brute Shot, and he runs at a person, aiming at the head, and moves his controller to the left a little at the exact same time as he punches, it’s an instant kill. The game itself is all about position, and timing. On LAN, you can see how good it is. Sadly, online, lag has a tole on it, and thus, sometimes it does things that should not happen. (2 people standing, 1 punching, and not hitting them.) Also, the idea of flying seems fun, but unrealistic, and sometimes annoying, especially when you fall off a cliff. >_< Wow, that’s all I can think of now. (That I hear people talk about all the time, and things that most don’t notice unless they have a trained eye.) Over all, Halo 2 is a great game. Granted, you may hear folks saying it was not as good as halo 1, but that is because (what a some people think, but not all) of the story. Halo 2 strips Halo 1’s MP in my opinion. You may wonder why I do this, but the answer is simple, I care. I care enough about this Company, and believe it or not in its people, as well as the fans. I thought by stating some of the obvious, and some not so obvious, it might help some of the most talented game designers make an even better game. -Aktins Diet PS: Please bring in sprinting. It really makes FPS fun. :) Now to the Update: WOW, that was really cool! I never expected it to look that good. Damn those guys are something. The music was a little over the top though I thought. But I have confidence that Marty will pull through, because his music is always excellent. Maybe its an example of what direction he is heading? And what of the Arbiter? What of the flood? God I hope there is a lot of flood. I love them. I also want to ride the dinos:) *sigh* that sucks that it is the last one. Damn you Bungie. Well, I guess the map editor is even more important then! Oh, and Please show the demo. Or at least some pics of the Ships! -Aktins Diet Edit: I change my mind on the music. I guess I did not "feel" it cause it was so alien. But now it feels right.... Thought I might let you know. Good job Marty.
wow that guy just wrote an essay to Bungie about Halo 3........... omfg..... give it to your english teacher!
OMG LOL ATKINS HOLY SHAT DUDE WOW I CANT BELIVE U DID I TOLD U IN GROUP BUT I GUESS U DIDENT LISTEN WOW OMG LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO HOLY GOD!!

 • Will the dynamics of the game stay the same? I certainly hope so. You've said this will be the last installment of the halo trilogy. Well that sucks!! Is there any hope of the halo dynamics being used for other bungie products or an off shoot of master chief exploring the galaxy discovering a new race or alliance of races? If not please sell the rights to the dynamics so others might make something Haloesk. Personally the feel of halos controls and the interactment between enviorment and gameplay should be the model for all programers to emulate

 • I got just one question, and it's probably already been answered but i can 't seem to find it if it has, 'Cortana' in the trailer does seem different i was wondering if it was in fact Dr. Halsey from the books? they would look similar because Cortana was built and modelled on the good doctor... and even had her personality drafted into the AI...
