Post your ideas for ODST 2!

Only the hardcore ODST lovers come here, so it's up to us to turn this thread into a hypothetical compilation of what could have been a sequel to Halo ODST. Let's come up with a plot, some key gameplay elements, modes, etc. and share them here. I'll keep this thread updated and gradually organize it as our design progresses. I'll start by listing some things we can go off of: Story: New Mombassa wasn't fully explored in ODST, so we could say that there were other ODST's in this city that fought in the battle in a different way. We could experience the story from different "Echo Team" who encountered Buck and his squad at some point during fighting in the city. Echo has their own mission to complete within the city. Or we don't even have to do it during this point in the city. The ODST's can drop in before the carrier goes into slip space and help the chief in old mombassa. The ODST's don't even have to be in the city--we can drop them to a completely different battle. Heck, we can even drop them on Reach and have them assist in the battles there. What about Harvest? Though if we drop them there, we lose the urban feeling, which was great and could be expanded on. Gameplay: > The ODST's can now Sprint at all times. > VISR mode now does infrared and thermal modes, in addition to its night vision > You also have a standard flashlight in case VISR is too glaring > Assassinations are possible for ODST's as well (pioneered by Buck!) > You can pick up biofoam like equipment to heal yourself and your teammates later on > Compass comes back off course--anything to add to the detective feeling Features > Fully customizable ODST's > Firefight is back (pretty insane...) with ODST inspired modes > New "Battle Bro" mode for 2 that gives you specific missions to complete > Actual multiplayer mode with various styles of gameplay and tactical combat > OPERATION--Invasion-style gameplay, except ODST's have to complete objectives and elites/brutes have to stop them > Play as Brutes and Elites [Edited on 03.02.2011 10:17 AM PST]

  • That sounds great! Maybe some forged firefight games?

  • In the conquest mode mentioned earlier, you would take over AI controlled AA guns. If you capture the gun, it shoots at the enemies drop pods.

  • Ya know, I would be even happier if the game took place during the height of the Insurgency. One thing ODST were highly used for was counter-terrorism.

  • I think the Community could make some of this stuff using Forge and Custom games in Halo Reach, who wants to give it a try?

  • Sounds awesome , but it would not be a Halo game, in the same way Halo Wars isnt a Halo game. It would be more like splinter cell in the Halo Universe

  • Forgot, darker story. Expected the A.I. to be rampant, lead you down wrong paths filled with covenant, it tortures one of the ODST/marines/Spartans for trying to shut it down.

  • Oh hell yeah, that would really make my day. As much as I loved Mombassa and Reach, it should have a wider environment akin to Halo CE, that sense of exploring a vast area where you choose your path to complete. Why not have a mission against insurrectionists, so colony/rural setting, then another where the team infiltrates a Covenant planet, covie version of megacity. Customisable ODST, choosing what extras on different helmets and making him/her unique. I'd like to see more human involvement, e.g. section where you hold area against covies to aid in evac. Show people who support the UNSC & hate it. Introduce a Spartan, possibly injured/squad of them replacing the ODSTs for a mission, show the tensions between ODSTS & Spartans like "The Babysitter". I expect ODST 2 would be a prequel, possibly explain Buck's original squad, what Buck was like before Reach's fall changed him. There's so many ways this could go, it could be separate to the other ODST game with a whole new squad, a prequel that runs into the original. It could even start at Harvest, all though I expect that to be told from a marine squad view, possibly a true squad based game like Republic Commando for Star Wars.

  • Great thread and ideas everyone! I wish Bungie would make a sequel to ODST, ODST 1 was very underrated and not that good. It was still good but there are better games out there.

  •
Posted by: PREMOxXx55 Story Line (Campaign) I think it would be awesome to go back to Halo one for ODST 2. For those of you who have read the book "The Flood" by William C. Dietz, probably remember reading about how the ODSTs from The Pillar of Autumn drop right after Captain Keyes initiates Protocol. They land on Halo and fight their way to a forerunner structure at the top of the hill controlled by covenant. There they set up a base and come up with a plan to go find The Pillar of Autumn and get supplies. It would be "Blam!" amazing to make your way across a desert with 100 other ODST soldiers and take the Pillar of Autumn back. Then make your way back to base with warthogs, tanks, pelicans, and anything you can salvage form the Pillar of Autumn. On the way back to base, like in the book, you get ambushed by covenant and fight your way through a valley with covenant shooting at you from up on top of each side of the valley. Once you make it back and reinforce your base, the Flood, after recently being released, are lurking in the tunnels underground the forerunner construct that your base is set up in. Before the flood attacks, you are attacked by covenant forces and lose a good majority of your soldiers. When you discover the Flood under you, you attack them and seal up the tunnel before they can attack you. Then as you fight battle after battle and right as your about to meet your end by a elite with a sword, a massive explosion goes off far away from the Pillar of Autumn, you get one last chance to kill the elite with your knife in slow motion before the explosion reaches you.
I think this is a great idea. It would be awesome to fight alongside First Lieutenant Melissa McKay and Major Antonio Silva, two of the most badass marines to ever exist.

As for character's in the Campaign Main Character - Jacob Salington (Jake), fresh out of training. You play as him through the whole campaign. Grew up on Earth and joined the UNSC with his best friend Joey. Main loadouts are Silenced SMG, Silenced Pistol, 2 Frag Grenades, and a Combat Knife. -Joey Morrinson, also fresh out of training with his best friend Jake. Grew up on Earth. Main loadouts are Silenced SMG, Sniper, and 2 Frag Grenades. -Caity Tensov, she has been and ODST for a year and is good when it comes down to pressure. Is the Heavy weapons unit, (who says girls can't blow "BLAM!" up). Main loadouts Rocket Launcher or Spartan Laser, Silenced SMG, and 2 Frag Grenades. -Steve McGallon, Squad leader. He has been an ODST for 17 years and has had his fair share of close deaths and suicide missions. He is always ready to take the initiative and once in a while talks about the days of when he fought the rebels. [Edited on 05.23.2011 8:12 PM PDT]

I wouldn't mind a different view of New Mombasa again, I love the feeling of being in a futuristic megacity.
I agree entirely. I loved the urban feeling of it.
• -For Firefight make it so you intially spawn and respawn by landing in a drop pod from orbit and you can direct to where it lands.
Posted by: Mairuzu1337 Has anyone played Medal of Honour: Airborne? Let me explain, at the start of every mission, you are parachuted out of a plane where you manually control where you land, anywhere in the level, and proceed to objectives. I think it would be awesome if at the start of every, or some, levels you were dropped from space and you could mnually control the drop pod, dodging obstacles and strategically choosing where it lands. I also think some sort of Firefight or Multiplayer Match making would give it replay value.
We could have some sort of conquest mode in ODST 2, kinda like section 8 prejudice. You would drop from orbit like a normal ODST,but you could get shot downby AA guns. I also had another idea, how about competetive multiplayer with flood, it would work similar to Singularity; the humans are trying to exterminate flood with some sort of forcefield emitted by a beacon, while the flood are trying to destroy it. But it can't be completely destroyd and the ODSTs can repair it. Once they have repaired and captured the beacon the countdown will begin, and the flood must either destroy the beacon again, or kill all the humans around it and recapture it. If there are more flood than humans around then they will start capturing it too. There would be different kinds of flood that can do different stuff like infecting other ODSTs and stuff like that. While the ODST have other classes and other abilities like camo and stuff. All of the classes can repair the beacon.

  • I think some of the posts here sound too similar to other games, introducing new things like knives and grapple. I personally think such things would ruin the game. Halo is good without these things.

Larger Environments.

  • A special slayer mode were instead of simply spawning, you could drop from orbit anywhere on the map. Or just at the start of the match players could drop from orbit but after they die they will respawn normally. It would be similar to medal of honor airborne or section 8.

  • I think this is a great idea, I'm sure people would love it if there was a longer campaign. But one big thing I wanna see if multiplayer, I think ODST multiplayer would be sweet because without shields it's more like CoD but still Halo goodness. This will prolly get some haters but I think it would even be cool is they took this more human opportunity to have aiming down sights too. They could even develop more realistic weapons like the Silenced SMG. But that's just my opinion, I would be fine with normal Halo but I would deff want multi

Perhaps the VISR coulb be a bit less bright, it wouldn't have infinite battry life, so you would have to find batteries for it around the city. When your VISR is malfunctioning you will have to switch to you flashlight, which means that you have more limited sight and enemies can see you easier. We should also be able to shoot lights to make it darker to confuse the enemies. I had another idea a while back about the health system; basically you would have your normal health, and then there would be armor on top of that. There would be three types of armor, all of them varying in health. And you could either pick up entire armour sets, or you could choose to pick up armor plates or shards. This would allow for more focus on survival and exploration. You would also get some biofoam with which could work like the pills in left 4 dead, and there would still be health packs around.

  •
Posted by: Od
Posted by: AdzMOFO
Posted by: Sepratist Unggoy It would be good if, at some time during the exploration of a characters back-story, we were getting stalked by a cloaked elite. I forget what the game is with the invisible water monster, but a lot of people believe it was one of the scariest video games ever...taking elements of that could make ODST2 heaps good. I don't think it should be a story of hope, like ODST was, but more of a story of failure in an opressive world.
I think you are talking about Amnesia: the dark descent
Yeah that's the one. I was gonna say Amnesia but I didn't have the time to double check.
