Post your ideas for ODST 2!

Only the hardcore ODST lovers come here, so it's up to us to turn this thread into a hypothetical compilation of what [i]could[/i] have been a sequel to Halo ODST. Let's come up with a plot, some key gameplay elements, modes, etc. and share them here. I'll keep this thread updated and gradually organize it as our design progresses. I'll start by listing some things we can go off of: [b]Story:[/b] New Mombassa wasn't fully explored in ODST, so we could say that there were other ODST's in this city that fought in the battle in a different way. We could experience the story from different "Echo Team" who encountered Buck and his squad at some point during fighting in the city. Echo has their own mission to complete within the city. Or we don't even have to do it during this point in the city. The ODST's can drop in before the carrier goes into slip space and help the chief in old mombassa. The ODST's don't even have to be in the city--we can drop them to a completely different battle. Heck, we can even drop them on Reach and have them assist in the battles there. What about Harvest? Though if we drop them there, we lose the urban feeling, which was great and could be expanded on. [b]Gameplay:[/b] > The ODST's can now Sprint at all times. > VISR mode now does infrared and thermal modes, in addition to its night vision > You also have a standard flashlight in case VISR is too glaring > Assassinations are possible for ODST's as well (pioneered by Buck!) > You can pick up biofoam like equipment to heal yourself and your teammates later on > Compass comes back off course--anything to add to the detective feeling [b]Features[/b] > Fully customizable ODST's > Firefight is back (pretty insane...) with ODST inspired modes > New "Battle Bro" mode for 2 that gives you specific missions to complete > Actual multiplayer mode with various styles of gameplay and tactical combat > OPERATION--Invasion-style gameplay, except ODST's have to complete objectives and elites/brutes have to stop them > Play as Brutes and Elites [Edited on 03.02.2011 10:17 AM PST]

  • I think it'd be cool for an ODST game that took place during the fall of Reach... maybe I'm the only one though. If such a game WAS to be made, some things I'd like to see are (I took some ideas from previous posts): - Graphics like Reach's - Assassinations with animations unique to the game - Dual Wield - Wieldable combat knife - An armory like Reach's, but only with unique ODST armor perms - Playable Brutes and Elites - Sprint as a permanent "armor ability" for the ODST's - Infared/Thermal/night vision VISR mode, but without enemies/vehicles/weapons being outlines (I thought it looked a bit odd) - SMG and Silenced SMG as returning weapons - The same unique orange ODST HUD As for the campaign: - More epic and action packed, with every level beginning with a combat drop - A main character that speaks more (if only a little more) - Longer campaign - Longer individual levels - Unique levels with special vehicles, weapons, objectives, etc - Playing as a single character throughout And I'd want the game to have it's own unique multiplayer, separate from Reach's: - ODST's drop into every game in a drop pod, Brute's and Elites too - Maps with more grim feel to them (fighting in a heavy storm, inside a wrecked cruiser, in the midst of a glassing, etc.) - No armor abilities, everyone has sprint - Playable Brutes and Elites - Unique gametypes, like 4v4 ODST's vs Brute's/Elites, "Invasion"-like gametype, Infection with the Flood as zombies etc. - Forge/Foundry with drop pods, pelicans, etc. - FIREFIGHT, of course!!   • I'm not a hardcore ODST lover, but I did enjoy some aspects of Halo 3: ODST. I would like to see for gameplay: -night vision in sniper scope and pistol scope -more powerful pistol -the Hornet -living Elites -Covie Separatist Hunters and Grunts As for features: -better Tough Luck skull. Instead of diving from rockets, fuel rods, pp overcharges, enemies now move left or right while charging at you. This makes AI look more intelligent. I've seen what Zealots in Halo 1 can do when removing their dive from grenades chance. I throw a grenade and he moves left or right and closes the distance and kills me instead of diving off the bridge and falling to his death. -modified Mythic skull. Enemies and allies gain significant health and/or shield bonuses, but their heads aren't affected. That means plasma pistol shots to the head do more damage than shots to the body or legs. I have nothing more to add. The ideas already presented are way better than mine.

  • What about if the odsts were sent on a misson against insurrtionists and kig yar like in the cole protocol maybe more like a mix between a mmo halo wars and first person shooter you know maybe one guy is in charge of a ship with say 150 odsts then there are speacial missons. Full customization sounds good. With the mmo part maybe just a lot of people take a few ideas from wow maybe no leveling up affecting how strong your character is a mix of navy and odst let eric nylund write the story.

  • Great ideas, here are mine. -A new sneak mode called "Recon mode", while in recon mode, you are in third person view, and a meter will appear showing how close the enemy is to seeing you or hearing you. -(First thing's first, this will apply to all of Firefight) Each ODST can pick a class before the game begins. A medic class(heal teammates), an engineer class(fix vehicles), a Sniper class(umm Snipe!), and a Recon class(silenced weapons, a knife, and Recon mode enabled). -Scarabs now appear in Firefight. -A new Objective Firefight, where you and 3 other ODST's have to roam around the city of New Mombasa and rescue civilians. The game ends once everyone is dead, and the game gets harder and harder as you progress. Also, you cannot kill any civilians or the mission will fail. That's about it, I'll think of some Campaign ideas.

  • I think they should actually make a multiplayer suite with the ODST engine. I liked all the weapons and vehicles in ODST and I think a 16p, Halo 3-like multiplayer would be awesome. The only problem is that Bungie is almost gone from the Halo franchise and probably won't be in on the next game. Did anyone notice that the Bungie logo was gone from the new map pack trailer?

  • I won't lie, one of my favorite parts of ODST was its setting. I wouldn't mind a different view of New Mombasa again, I love the feeling of being in a futuristic megacity.

  • Perhaps it should take place during Halo 3, since the last time we ever saw the ODST's from the last game was when Vergil agreed to help the humans. It would be cool to play as an ODST while helping the chief. But if they did do that, They would need to make sure the MASter Chief's A.I. is good. And it would't be the same game since ODST's were around dozens of battles on the Ark or COvenant.....

  • I would say Harvest since it has yet to be explored by a halo game. Although i am not sure how that would work out based on the timeline with the corresponding events that took place on harvest. Yet if it worked out that ODST's were deployed on harvest, I would love to take place in the battle that started the human Covenant war. If there was any way that the squad of ODST's you play in ODST 2 are not confined to one planet. The Squad would be comprised of between 4-6 ODST's. All but the Squad leader would be new recruits. They squad would fight on multiple planets since the Human-Covenant war was fought on many planets. The squad would harden and eventually lead up to a huge fight to survive on Reach. I feel in this final battle the Squad Leader would die and hand the men over to the user controlled player. This is all just hypothetical but i think it would make for an epic game.

  • THis would be a nice idea not unlimited sprint as they are jsut human on D pad up-for inferred and stuff right-to climb things like crates? left-not sure bottom-not sure it would be cool to have it happen on harvest like they go through all of this and you already know the ending but cant but play it through with them for the sakes ( for poeple who dont know harvest gets glassed and in Halo Wars flood come also could introduce flood firefight always wanted that :) introduces new characters maybe have main one talk. 6 group members all with own back ground could go through back ground story to show how they got together. also they could of just recentally formed since other group members died leaving story levels limitless. group members sarah/sara-- someone born on harvest. strict but very sweet when you get to know her. she has alot on her mind and her boyfriend of 3 years who she was about to propoe to, her dog, and her child of 7 months ( hint at the 7) died by the covenet. She has an unusual hate towards them. Leader of the group. Good with make gut choices and an exelent close up user . Best with automatics and shotgun, always carries 1 frag and 1 flash granade ( grenade that flahes the area with a flash of light for 3-5 or 7 seconds. Vegatarian and hates being away from the action. Max- Born on Earth but moved from planet every few years. his parents never really liked him and he try's to be a tough kind of guy but fails. He is very emotional and is the teams expert in emotional patterns and wildlife.( helps understand emotions and patterens of other species such as elites or brutes. Also they know he knows things aobut planets, what to eat where to go ect. Best gun's are Alien gun's and almost equal if not equal in usig them againts other aliens. Favorite aliens wepons are Plasma repeater, needel rifle, needler, and always acarries 2 stickies with him. thats all i have for now sorry about not having more but i think its a a start to bad it wont happend since the responce to ODST was not amazing. if it had been they would have made one

  • Sounds great. I think it should be about Buck's squad during Reach. They plot should intertwine with Reach's plot. For example maybe Buck and the rest of the squad destroy a phantom which houses the elite that killed Kat. They should also meet up with Jun and find out what happened to him. Also I would like to know how Buck got the planet exactly.

  • Awesome thread. Everything is plausible. The only thing I'd change is the sliding after sprinting. I don't think that'd go well. But, the Sprinting itself seems reasonable. I'll have to add more to this when I have more time.

  • F*** YES! -Also make it so you can wield a combat knife as well as two other weapons. -New grenades. I was hell disappointed that they didn't include special grenades for ODST. -Include a special button that allows you to navigate over obstacles (You always see marines and ODSTs climbing over crates and stuff). Much like the SMART feature in Brink. -Add evade type rolls as well as sprint. -Make it so armour perms actually effect gameplay, as in offer you bonuses. Eg: Mickey's shoulder makes you 5% resistant to melee attacks or Romeos visor adds a new zoom. This would make your character more combat role orientated. Rather than just some ordinary ODST.
