With the recent update I lost my characters and it has me create a new one. How do I get my characters back?

A post from another player who has experienced the issue and is now able to access their characters as normal: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/263778799/0/0 Others who have said they have made new characters in place of missing ones still have their old characters and progress visible in the app, but it’s best to not create a new character just to be safe. (΄◉◞౪◟◉｀)
